Elona I forgot to say in my post, Mr LW did get a frozen flexible cold-pack thingy out of the freezer and wrap it in a bar towel to use as a compress. :A

I want to send you all a hug. I went to the doctors today and I know that all of you at some time will have had a trip like this so hugs.

First thing...my leg injury hurts so I asked the doctor could I change from my usual dihydrocodeine (for osteoarthritis) to tramadol as occasionally if I wake up in the night I need more painkillers and dihydrocodeine causes constipation in high doses. Tramadol is less likely to have this side effect so I asked for a swap while I have more pain issues. My gp replied that Tramadol can be addictive. My head is saying "I've been taking dihydrocodeine for 12 years you moron", my mouth managed to say that as I already have DHC for severe pain and still manage without it some nights we can probably skip that issue. Happily he agreed although he couldn't print my prescription as they had computer problems and it had to be printed elsewhere and brought for him to sign. He was in a different room (due to computer problems) and on the other side of the wall a man (I saw him so I know it was a man) was smoothing out a newly dried concrete floor which is an extension to the pharmacy with what looked like a lawnmower but made a noise like a drill. A very big, very loud drill.

Next issue (still talking over the drill noise) - hospital want you to do a blood test for clotting factor because of the way my leg injury has gone from a small graze to a haematoma. My doctor examined my leg, agreed there was something amiss then asked me why the hospital didn't do the blood test themselves. Head says how the bleeping hell should I know, mouth manages to politely say "I don't know, maybe you should ask them?" He printed off the blood test request (at least that printed).

Moving swiftly on...I mention my allergic reactions which remain "cause unknown" and have been spectacular in the past week. I show him photographic proof and mention different gp won't let me have the only cream that helps the itching. Fair play to him he does a prescription which also can't be printed off (see above from "printed elsewhere" :rotfl: ) He tells me to come back in 2 weeks as he wants to read up on my allergy tests and problems. I thank him and leave. Drilling noise still ongoing.

Next problem. I have to have the dressings for my leg prescribed and the pharmacy have to order them. They come the next day...or if ordered on a Friday they come on the Monday. You can see where this is going can't you? I ordered them as a repeat prescription from the doctors on Monday because I need them for tomorrow and I and rang yesterday to check the script was done. It had been so I asked the receptionist if it could be passed to the onsite pharmacy as it had to be ordered. Yes, of course it could, that was no problem. I went today and guess where the script was? Still in the box on reception at the doctors. After my initial dressing request 2 weeks ago which they insisted I could only have if their nurse dressed my leg (fabulous, 3 minute drive down the road instead of a 20 minute drive to hospital), which subsequently sat on the receptionist's desk for 3 days until I went for my appointment with the nurse (who couldn't dress my leg - even though I'd rang the day before and was told that they hadn't done the script so she must have the dressings in stock but then she didn't have the stuff and neither did the pharmacy) and my subsequent conversation with the practice manager during which I asked if she could think of a good reason why I shouldn't submit a formal complaint......they've excelled themselves once again. Another chat with the practice manager and fair play to her she made them ring round local pharmacies until they found one that could order the dressings and have them delivered tomorrow but I was on the point of crying by then - out of frustration or temper I don't know which. The dressings are ordered anyway and the pharmacy that was so helpful will ring me tomorrow when they're in. I've told the practice manager they've had two chances now...she said she will find out who took my call and make them aware of the impact their lack of action has had on my treatment - I used my mobile so exact time is shown. ** Special note of interest - the nurse at the doctors took one look at my leg and said it would be better if I carried on going to the hospital as they had seen me so far. Couldn't make that up could you? She did at least do my dressing script that had sat on someone's desk for three days......

If any of you actually manage to read that lot you get an extra hug. Sometimes writing it down does help. I was in the building for an hour!

Cranky - I'd have been tempted to whip off the existing dressing and strangle the receptionist with it!:D Well done on keeping your mouth polite even though your head was saying other things; I suspect you have more self-restraint that I do. ;)

I'm not usually that restrained but I don't particularly want to have to swap GPs whilst this saga is ongoing. I showed her the photos of what I've done that are on my phone instead (they make most people wince). How is your head by the way? I also saw elsewhere that Mr LW reads the Telegraph. Does he ever try the crossword? I buy it sometimes, start the crossword then post the crossword to my friend to see if he can finish it. I can usually do most of the small one.

No, it's betnovate. It's supposed to be for short term use only as it is very strong and can thin your skin. As the only skin I have any intention of getting sunlight on these days are my hands and face and I don't have the rash there I reckon I'm safe. I have worked through every other variation of cream/lotion/ointment and none of it helped. The reaction this week involved almost all of my left arm from wrist to two inches above my elbow and was a bit scary (biggest yet). I have had blood tests where I have to guess what it might be and they then test for that. Other than mushrooms the tests have had low reactions. I am fed up of guessing and blood tests so you can see where that idea went.....

Please do bore us. Who else do we have to tell to stop the madness creeping in. At least we all understand the frustration of longstanding issues here (my leg doesn't count for that :rotfl: )

    Cranky

I hope the snowball stops rolling and melts soon. Surely it must get better eventually.

Mind you I am still waiting for results of a heart scan in August and the letter to gp from a private appointment with a specialist.:o

Thanks. I won't hold my breath on the results of my week long cardiac monitoring then although I did show the gp today the ummmm interesting mark that looks like someone has painted a bullseye on my breastbone. That was a result of being very allergic to the hypoallergenic gel on the heart monitor pad..... I'd be making some phone calls if I were you.
