Vent: HGV Drivers who 'block' dual carriageways

This sort of mentality is what causes driving styles like this..
From the paragraph you quoted you seem to take offense that the fact that ''trucks deliver everything that people buy''
Clearly you do not buy anything or actually drive a car - if you find that statement offensive, n that case, well done you for being so self sufficient!
Shut the front door..With love, POSR0 -
Having in my younger days owned underpowered cars, I was caught out early in my driving career by attempting an overtake of a diesel Land-Rover up a long hill on a dual carriageway. Embarrassing.
Nowadays I would not consider putting myself or others at risk or to inconvenience (which is how it feels to me, YMMV) by attempting an overtake which required my pushing of the throttle to the floor for several miles and hoping that at some unforeseeable point further down the road I might be able to get back into lane 1.
Lorry drivers in general must have a different mindset.0 -

Maybe you should read the title of the board that we are on....it's got the word 'vent' in there [and right at the start of this posts title...].....Vent....as in Vent your frustration.0 -
As I've said...it's the !!!!!!!! in the inside lane who is inconsiderate...he can see the traffic building up massively, yet refuses to slow for a few seconds to let his colleague safely pass and pull in.
Like car drivers, most HGV drivers are spot on....it's the few retards that spoil it.0 -
I must admit, I very rarely overtake anything on single-carriageway country roads, which, in my opinion, are the most dangerous roads. I'd rather sit behind a tractor for 3 or 4 miles doing 25mph, than risk overtaking on a bendy road.
Ok, if there's a nice long straight bit and good visibility, then I will, after ensuring with a glance over my right shoulder that the impatient car three cars back isn't zooming up beside me!(I just lurve spiders!)

Clearly you do not require the services of doctors, nurses, carers etc who are delayed by the type of driving that you seem to think is acceptable. Just because someone is a "professional" driver does not mean they are any good, just that they are paid to do it.Not even wrong0 -
why don't they allow a short term boost system so that a truck driver can press a button and get an extra 5mph for 1 minute but only once every 8 minutes. It would be enough for one stuck in an endless overtake to get ahead and pull in.
Of course there would be the temptation to press it every 8 minutes anyway but I suspect they would soon get bored of doing so. And often one truck has a pretty good advantage over another so it would only be needed some times.0 -
Far more annoying for me is the situation like yesterday when I followed an old dear in a Yeti down the slip onto a motorway and they insist on joining at 35mph!
Totally impervious to the mass of panic evacuation of the inside lane left behind them.
You follow them down the slip thinking OK they are going to hit it any second, yep they are going to floor it...oh no! they keep plodding!
If you join behind them you get the hate and act as their rear end shield!
I remember my driving instructor once tell me, even if you have a Ferrari, all cars slow quicker than they accelerate so its easier to approach fast and slow to fit in than to accelerate into a gap. I still think that good advice and any modern car should be able to join at least at 60mph and then adjust.0 -

Here we go, another back-trakker
Your quote actually said 'people who moan, remember trucks deliver everything that people buy'. Implying that we shouldn't moan about the driving style of people in trucks because they deliver everything we buy.
think about it- thats like me saying 'dont moan about my driving style, remember im a doctor'
My point is regardless of who is driving, what they are carrying that does not give anyone the right to drive irresponsiblyEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0 -

Just be a bit careful - Plod knows exactly where these nice long straight bits are, and take great please in hiding at the end with a radar/laser gun... Your safe, quick overtaking manoeuvre is a source of easy tickets for them...0
