Or simply restrict HGV's to lane 1 where an overtaking manoeuvre such as that described by the OP will cause congestion e.g. on inclines. There used to be areas of the M5 towards Bristol that had such restricitions, not sure if they still do.

There is still a part of the A14 with that restriction

Im not meaning to be rude but you are talking nonsense.

Lorries are inherently safe, you could argue drivers arent, i would agree but the vehicle is safe.

Building an entirely separate road for the use of lorries will also have environmental consequences (ie cement/concrete is proper nasty) which will increase the damage caused to people. Ie less safe. And there will still be accidents.

See what i mean, what your saying does not make sense, has no meaning and would be foolish. Ie the definition of nonsense. Im just disagreeing with you and using a word i believe accurately describes your suggestion. Maybe i could have not said it but i wouldve still felt compelled to disagree. Ill take suggestions as to how i couldve done that without you thinking i was being rude?

Incidentally i think it rude that you suggest that others should not be able to share the road with you.

My comment was tongue in cheek and not meant to be taken seriously, as if anyone is going to build roads just for lorries. Chillax

Which part? I use quite a bit of the A14 and haven't seen it

The A14 from Felixstowe is one of the worst parts simply because of the amount of trucks coming from/to the port

As someone who's driven hgvs, yes it can be frustrating I understand that and yes the driver on the inside could alow down but you'll never change it. This discussion happens a lot on the truck forums aswell.
I wouldn't suggest slowing down too much in front of a lorry as if it was to rear end you then I doubt I need to explain the consequences. Amazes me how people moan about bad driving from others yet then suggest doing it themselves to justify the issue in the first place.
You'll find they will probably both be on the cruise control which is why they don't slow down.
    Oh and it's 56 not 59.

  • cant believe the pointless moan of the OP on this thread. Thank the EU for speed restrictions. Every truck is different and so what if it is 0.1 mph faster than the other. If every truck stayed in the first lane all behind a truck that does 50, then this would be more dangerous. It is the moaning muppets who need to stay in the first lane out of the way of trucks and non moaning car drivers.
What about tractors? they range from 15 to 30 mph. should they stay off the road completely.?
I'm all for slow trucks overtaking on dual carriageways. More of them please.

OH said this morning tractors should be banned from the roads during rush hour. I pointed out to her that it wasnt the tractor slowing her down, it was the traffic. Apparently i was being argumentative. :rotfl:

M42/A42 junction northbound also has restrictions on the right hand lane at certain times i think. It doesnt work though.

Used that section last week and a truck pulled out with less than 100 yards to go before the restriction signs. Still in the right hand lane well past the signs.

No police left these days though it seems. Rarely see one around here.
Although i did see one on the Lincoln to Newark road the other day.

Luckily a dithering derek and mable pulled out doing 60mph to overtake the van ahead doing 59mph, approx 1/4 of a mile ahead though. Why lucky??

In the right hand lane at a bit above the limit was a 911, they had to brake for the dithering derek and luckily didnt try to undertake or floor it as they passed them. Police sitting in the layby at an angle watching out for speeders.

Although i have just had visions of the Harry and Paul show with the 2 swedish policemen :)

Maybe they were not looking out for speeders?
