Vent: HGV Drivers who 'block' dual carriageways

To be fair, it's not just HGVs.
Plenty of car drivers struggle to maintain a consistent speed, meaning if you are using cruise control and pull out to overtake, you can be alongside them for quite some time as they speed up then slow down then speed up again. The inconsistency drives me bonkers. :rotfl:0 -

Used that section last week and a truck pulled out with less than 100 yards to go before the restriction signs. Still in the right hand lane well past the signs.
No police left these days though it seems. Rarely see one around here.
Although i did see one on the Lincoln to Newark road the other day.
Luckily a dithering derek and mable pulled out doing 60mph to overtake the van ahead doing 59mph, approx 1/4 of a mile ahead though. Why lucky??
In the right hand lane at a bit above the limit was a 911, they had to brake for the dithering derek and luckily didnt try to undertake or floor it as they passed them. Police sitting in the layby at an angle watching out for speeders.
Although i have just had visions of the Harry and Paul show with the 2 swedish policemen
Maybe they were not looking out for speeders?
I use that stretch a few times a year. It also doesn't work when the inside lane is occupied by:
An old mimser who thinks 40mph is far to fast, so does 35mph.
A vintage vehicle fan whose only love in life is his 1940s bus which does 40mph on a good day going down hill.0 -
I was a bit surprised to find tractors were allowed on two lane German Autobahns that had no speed limit! There I was sat doing 120mph thinking "This is quite fast" and being passed by Porsches & Beemers doing 150, and sharing the road with Trucks doing perhaps 60mph and tractors doing 30mph. No accidents, no traffic queues, but to be fair, the volume of traffic, especially trucks, was very much lower.
Had to keep your wits about you, especially in respect of traffic coming up behind you.
Stay safe - don't let the idiots get to you.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -

I see this lots as well.
Can't understand it, it was one of the first skills I acquired after passing my test and started to use motorways regularly.
It is now automatic and requires next to no thought at all.0 -

The inconsistency is what annoys me too. I was driving from north west to cambridge the other day, and back on thursday and this is so true. On cruise control and you catch drivers up, overtake, then a short while later they are alongside you.0 -
On that A42 stretch again (Southbound), I was overtaken by the same white BMW 4 times...
They were well over the limit each time and just flew past, but when it happened a 2nd time i thought maybe they pulled off to get fuel, but then again and again i did think !!!!!!!!!
No issue to me though, barely anything else on the road, but i was curious why they overtook so many times. Where did they go at each junction?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
People who moan, remember that trucks delivery literally everything you purchase. Artic drivers have spent thousands of pounds passing two more driving tests than car drivers have, and have far more advanced skills + are constantly monitored. Many of them are on timed deliveries, and by over taking they are doing nothing wrong.
I have always said that during rush hour, any journey of less than 2 miles by car should be illegal, unless you are disabled or carrying large goods. I don't know how it would be monitored, but so many short journeys being made clogging up the roads for people who actualy need to travel a distance that is not easily walkedWith love, POSR0 -

This sort of mentality is what causes driving styles like this..
and the person in the car behind is a doctor, nurse, serviceman, carer etc etc.
Everybody is the same, nobody has more rights over someone else on the road because of who they are or what they are carrying. (obviously with the exception of emergency services)Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0
