E-on/ MSE Fixed 1 Year Collective Sept 2015 - Stay or wait?

  • Hmm, I just checked through Which, and indeed the new Saver v1 Eon tariff does not appear in my results as I am on the MSE 2015 Eon tariff.

I have fired off an email to Which, as I think they should be making it clear to Eon customers using Which's switching services that they are withholding results because they are existing customers. I think customers should at least know that this is the case.

I would like to add my name to the list of REALLY unhappy, soon-to-be-ex EON customers. Why, Eon, when you send such clear emails encouraging customers to shop around as their deal is coming to an end, do you not at the same time encourage them to stay? It makes no sense. Even if your margins depend on customers doing nothing at the end of their fixes and defaulting on to your least competitive tariff and this is why you want to entice new customers, then why not at least try to hang on to your existing customers and hope they do the same next year? Surely someone savvy enough to switch to you is no more likely to do nothing next year than someone you already have as a customer?
  • I do not want to leave EON.

However EON give me no choice!

I did log a complaint, but was just told to complain to the ombudsman. Not really an answer.

All a bit sad on the part of EON and their employees who make these decisions.

  • I totally agree with above posts. EON have served me well in past. I see Malc, EON rep, has responded to a later post than mine. I would have appreciated an answer as to why EON have decided to switch me at end of 2015 Collective to Economy 7, just because there is a metre in situ (never used for 15 years). Post #54 refers. I hope my transfer to BG is swift and straightforward. I am very disappointed in EON's approach to existing customers.
Thank you - I do understand about price protection period and that I am on Standard Energy plan pending switch to BG. What I do not understand is why I have been put on Economy 7? If the switch takes longer than next 18 days I will be charged at that rate. As stated in my posts, I have been with EON for a long time and there have been two electric metres for years. I have never been on this. Why now? It is clearly not the cheapest for me as I have to use all appliances during daytime as I live in a flat. As indicated in my post, I got no joy from contacting EON yesterday. It's all very well assuming the switch will be carried out in a timely manner, but things go wrong and I do not want to be lumbered with this higher rate. I do not see why my account cannot be amended.

Morning Raine E Day and sorry I wasn't clear before.

Once your preferred supplier has contacted us within the Price Protection window, you'll be okay. It doesn't matter how long it takes for the switch to go through. So, even if something does go wrong, your prices will be protected up to the supply end date. This means your final bill will be based on your former collective tariff prices.

From what you say, I suspect they've already been in touch. Once we receive an application to switch, your account will be suspended until all has gone through. At this point, neither our advisors nor you (through our website) will be able to change anything.

I'd check your online account. If you're unable to switch to single rate or enter meter readings, it's more than likely the switch is underway.

Once fixed tariffs end and where customers haven't been in touch, accounts automatically rollover on to the standard Energy Plan. It sounds as though, as you've a two rate Economy 7 meter, our system has picked up on this and put the account on these prices. Ordinarily, this can be changed easily either by yourself through our website or one of our advisors. If, though, the account has been suspended as above, this won't be possible. I agree, this isn't good. As a long standing single rate customer you should've been able to continue on this arrangement regardless of the tariff change. I'll look into this further. Not much help to you now, I know, but could benefit others.

Sorry you're leaving Raine E Day and hope I've explained a bit better but please me know if still unclear.

I'd like to add my voice to the clamour of disappointment that EON are restricting their latest tariff to "new customers only " (does anyone remember the Nationwide Building Society TV advert of a few years ago?).

Perhaps if more existing customers express their disapproval of this policy, and Malc and/or Helena pass it on, then EON will reconsider and make their tariff accessible to all.

Morning Logen and thank you for your comments.

I can definitely confirm your feedback has been passed on along with that from others on this and related MSE threads. I'll continue to do this and acknowledge individual posts as soon as I can.

Sorry I'm a bit late acknowledging yours Logen. I've been putting together all the comments on this and other threads.

My advice to you is not to worry about it until, or rather unless, it actually happens.

As Malc has explained, as you are within the price protection window, if the new supplier contacts Eon (and it does sound like they already have) to say you want to switch supplier, then you will continue to be charged according to the existing tariff until that switch occurs. (even if that is after the day the tariff would ordinarily expire)

If the final bill from Eon, whenever it arrives, does not reflect that, then that would be the time to complain :)

agree with all of the above, why not offer loyal customers a deal?.new customers only?....strange way to do business.:

you have, cant complain about their customer service, tesco points which you receive just for paying your bill, and easy to navigate website.....just a pity as others have said that customer loyalty is non existent.

Morning shazzablue and thank you for your comments. As above (#129), I've passed this feedback on.

Glad you've been happy with our service, website and Rewards. Just a quick heads up about E.ON Rewards. These aren't available to anyone signing up to the new Saver Tariffs. Existing customers on eligible tariffs (all those listed on our website are eligible) are okay. They'll continue to receive points (up to 1500 a year) as now. It's just those coming on to the new Saver Tariffs that won't receive any Reward points.

Sorry for the late reply shazzablue. Hope this is of interest.

There are 2 "saver" tariffs, Saver v1 and Saver Plus v1. The plus version has the silly SCs.

    For me 1.841 / 57.81 & 9.272 / 43.56
    or....... 2.346 / 24.73 & 11.634 / 15.44

The plus comes in £57 pa dearer than the standard but for my daughter it is only £10 dearer

Ah thanks, I'd missed that, the plus version was so far down the list! No good for me, 19.4% more than I'm currently paying.

Can I direct this question to the E.on rep please? Our MSE collective fixed tariff finishes on 27/9. We are on economy 7 electricity only (no gas where we live unfortunately). There are no decent switching options via the new MSE collective but I have according to the UK Power website, our best tariff would be to stay with you and go onto the E.ON Energy Saver Plus Fixed 1 Year v1. However, it is not available through their website and I cannot find out how to swap into it, or who the deal is through. Can you assist please? We would rather stay with you, otherwise we will have to switch to SSE.
  • reminds of when E on released around 3 or 4 new tariffs within Days of each other earlier in the year,

v18 v19 v20 then it came to v21 i think it was, where it was nearly £250+ more expensive than the previous one lol

i dont think E on knows themselves how to keep/get new customers with their marketing at times

Morning NittyGritty and sorry for the late reply.

As above (#129), I've passed your comments on to those at E.ON responsible for tariffs. Thank you for this feedback, it's very much appreciated.
