We didn't bother with wedding rings when we got married as neither of us wear jewellery.

What about people who are together and not married, there is no ring to see if someone is off limits or not ;)
I don't think wearing a wedding ring puts people 'off limits'.

If someone really wants to get it on with somebody else, I can't see a ring making any difference at all.
There are people who actually target married people.
They maybe want a bit of a fling or even a one-night stand and perhaps they think sex with somebody who is married will have less strings attached.

I have no wedding ring because I do not like them. My wife wares hers plus an eternity ring. Married 1983 and still happy. This decision is a personal one.

I must admit that I am surprised to hear so many people don't wear them, and don't even want to, but each to their own.

I always wear mine when I am out and so does my husband. And I wear it indoors too, but do take it off to wash up, and clean the house, and have a shower etc... My husband wears his almost all the time...

But as a few people have said, it doesn't make you any less married if you don't wear it, and it doesn't stop people cheating of they have the intention to do so.

As for the original question, do whatever makes you (and your wife) happy. :)
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

A male friend of mine almost lost his finger when he caught his wedding ring on something at work.
I've heard some horror stories about accidents caused by rings getting caught in machinery that would make me seriously think twice about wearing one if I worked in a factory or building site.

I don't wear one as I don't own one. I don't like the feel of jewellery on my skin. Why anyone would be 'gobsmacked' to discover that not all married people wear one bemuses me, as there are far more important things to nonplus us all I would say!

I was shocked when William Cambridge not opting for a wedding ring made such news five years ago (even internationally!), but after seeing some of the comments on this thread, perhaps I shouldn't have been:

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/Royal_Diary_Blog/royal-wedding-wedding-ring-prince-william/story?id=13268406

If I was to be 'gobsmacked' by anything it would be why anyone gives a fig!

Note: win, draw or lose (not 'loose' - opposite of tight!)

    Are they off limits though?

I'd say they're as off limits as someone who is married, yes. However I don't see any difference between a couple who are married and a couple in a long term relationship so maybe other people's opinions will differ on this.

So, Gavin83, given the replies you've had are you going to wear a ring or not? :)
