That is a lot of painting to be done before the carpets go down in 13 days.

debtfreeoneday said:Well done on the PB wins. Was there a biggie on that or just lots of little wins?
I have won every month that I have held the maximum amount, sometimes just £25, usually more, the biggest prize I had was £500, and that month I won a £100 as well. It is much more fun than my ISA, which is also on a 5% return, but will be dropping down soon as my fixed rate will be over.

Life jacket firmly on first @KajiKita Fear Not!If I can spot the ambush first, it can be planned for.Sister of Step-Gran rang on Monday night, I had to break the news of who had died in Norn Iron since her last phone call - I must be in her diary as a June/December phone call. There appears to be a pattern developing. She is now 82, which I think is the age Step-Gran was when she died. That is on her mind a lot. She keeps asking me if step-gran had X, and if so what age did it come on. I do remind her I am not medically trained.I got her to agree to go back to 'seated yoga' and to look at some other senior citizen classes. Her partner is 94 and now has practically no short term memory and she is finding it very hard. Not sure of the social care system in Canada, but even if it is made of solid gold, it will still be flipping hard to see someone just slipping away. She needs to make some more friends, as most of hers have died. I told her to go and corrupt some fresh 70 year olds, maybe start a gang of them. I don't think she will cope very well on her own when he does go, she needs a new support (stocking) network. She was married 4 times (or maybe 5) before she decided she was not very good at it, so has been 'shacked up with him' since the 1980s and loving it. Such a different life to the one step-gran led.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

I’m glad you are being wary / prepared ….
Sister if step gran sounds quite a character 😊 There’s been a lot of ‘old age and death’ around me in recent months (never mind the bereavements earlier in the year) and I am starting to get an insight into why older people’s circles shrink. There’s only so much loss, suffering and misery you can stand, and if you have a good dollop in your own life it’s hard to add that if others to it! Good idea about the getting out and socialising 😊

Pay has hit my bank account, for which I am thankful, which is weird, cos I earned it - it is mine!I have a credit card bill of nearly £1800 to pay at the end of January - I will chip away at it over the month - it is because of carpets and car fixing, not frivolous nonsense. Oh to be in the mood for frivolous nonsense!Today I am going to go and buy paint, raid the shed for decorating bits (shop from home first!!) put Christmas back in the loft and reclaim some space downstairs. The top floor will be cleaned today.DS1 is off to London Town for a party tonight (no news on jobs/interviews/anything really, for either DS1 or DS2 - I am livid with them).I have plans to make celeriac soup for lunch to use up the gifted local organic dirty celeriac from my 'new' 80 yr old fan.I need to stay focused, because I cannot afford to be distracted. There are walls that need a-painting before these here carpets go down, and there is no point not painting the ceiling while I am at it. It is a once every 5 years job. I will not be here in another 5 years, so really it is House Selling preparation. If I think of it like that then I can do it, if I think of it as making our house better then it doesn't get done, if I think of it as 'staging', then I can do it. Weird huh? Anyway, it is going to involve big sliding door mirror wardrobes and a desk once these carpets go down. I have struggled on with what we have / short term - low cost solutions for long enough.Basta already! It is New Year's Eve - I am going to celebrate tonight with a hot chocolate with vegan cream and marshmallows and a shot of amaretto. It is all in the house. No cost celebration. I might not even stay up til midnight. I might go to bed with my book. One more coffee and I am off!I hope 2025 is amazing for everyone. Isn’t it progress that DS1 is getting out of his room, out of the house, off his gaming machine and interacting with peers? Hearing about their jobs and income might give him some ideas or incentive?Maybe the ‘staging’ is a motivating factor because you get so little positive feedback about what you do in the house from the other occupants and staging means someone else will praise it (EA) or pay for it (buyer)? I would find it very hard to keep going with improvements here if Mr KK just ignored them …
I got paid today too. Also feels weird as I think they’ve paid me too much! 😉😂
Enjoy your NYE and perhaps 2025 could include more fun / more time for you?

I told DH I was going to paint our bedroom this week before the carpet goes down. He said didn't you just do it? Well, yeah, 6 years ago is relatively recent in the history of the universe 😭.
I did the 4 top floor rooms last year. You may well be right @KajiKita.
I have realised that I don't know anyone who actually does their own decorating. This has knocked my confidence a bit. I just need to get back on the paintbrush.
He loves his study though, and he loves it when it is done.
He will love it when we walk away from this place with double the money it cost to buy it.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

We do our own decorating 😊 @debtfreewannabe321 definitely does her own decorating - read her latest posts for the full ‘joy’ of papering a ceiling … 😉
I even persuaded Mr KK to put coving up in the living room last year - the rest of the house has it and to my eye the living room just looked ‘unfinished’ without it.KKAs at 15.08.25:
