  • Sorry to hear re the work situation but the kids wide eyed made me laugh.
It's good for them to start realising they actually have their own feet they can start to stand on ;)

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

The call for voluntary redundancy has gone out at DHs institution. They need 120 to go. If they can't get enough, compulsory redundancies will start in Jan/Feb.  Whoever goes will not be replaced. They are already 8 staff down who have found jobs elsewhere/ gone off sick and we're not replaced in the last year.
It is now the case that they are covering seminars for the people who have left who were covering the seminars for the original people covering seminars for the people off on long term sickness's seminar allocation.
So his stress levels are off the roof.
He doesn't want to go for Dept Head if that means he will be the one telling people they are redundant.  So that avenue is closed. 🔐
The kids have been informed that his job is not secure and they need to grow up and get jobs.
    Wide eyed stares 👀👀👀👀 abound.
Not an easy time, but there's lots of good advice for people who've been through it before. I seem to remember that your DH was vaguely considering his next move being abroad. Have you told the kids that only those of them still at school would get to come with you? (And no, they can't stay and 'house sit' for you).

They wonder why so many go off sick due to mental health.  It is time they looked at themselves and their toxic work environments.

It is 70+ miles away, the office politics is unreal, and I am happy to do short term contracts with them, but I could not bite my tongue for more than 10 days if in close contact .   I know my own limitations.  I have to be able to see the exit.
Ah … fair enough. I was just checking that it wasn’t imposter syndrome or some such 😊

There are SOOOO many posts on LI in this vein atm … But, these toxic bosses just don’t recognise the behaviour in themselves.

It’s like the boarding school mentality of “I was beasted and I’m alright, so it’s what should be done to the next generation.”

    Patriarchy thinking maybe?
