Sorry to hear re the work situation but the kids wide eyed made me laugh.
It's good for them to start realising they actually have their own feet they can start to stand on
DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

This is when it makes a HUGE difference to have no mortgage, no debts and some savings behind you. Those immediate worries won’t be yours. I really feel for DH - it must be so hard still trying to deliver a rich and positive learning experience for students in the midst of all that.Hoping that this news gets sons 1 and 2 MOVING!KKAs at 15.08.25:
- When bought house £315,995 mortgage debt and end date at start = October 2039 - now £232,244
- OPs to mortgage = £12,048 Interest saved £5,675 to date
Fixed rate 3.85% ends October 2030

f0xh0les said:The call for voluntary redundancy has gone out at DHs institution. They need 120 to go. If they can't get enough, compulsory redundancies will start in Jan/Feb. Whoever goes will not be replaced. They are already 8 staff down who have found jobs elsewhere/ gone off sick and we're not replaced in the last year.
It is now the case that they are covering seminars for the people who have left who were covering the seminars for the original people covering seminars for the people off on long term sickness's seminar allocation.
So his stress levels are off the roof.
He doesn't want to go for Dept Head if that means he will be the one telling people they are redundant. So that avenue is closed. 🔐
The kids have been informed that his job is not secure and they need to grow up and get jobs.

The conversation has been had, about under 18s not having visa problems and over 20 year olds being ADULTS!!!
So today I am going to visit bathroom showrooms. Once the upstairs bathroom is done, then we can go full steam ahead on the ground floor works and just retreat upstairs until it is done.
I think DS4 is going to outgrow his bike soon. He can move to the next size up. That bike can leave and I get another m2 of space back.
Have I mentioned my solar powered tree? I love it. The lights come on when it gets dark and charge up all day.
DH went wild on Dark Friday. Tech stuff for DS3 and DS4 for C-Word. I will pick up a second hand TV from the charity shop - £35 and DS3 can use his phone to cast to it. His broken one was second hand and we had it for over 10 years and it moved 4 houses with us. We tried to fix it, but it had to go and live in the TV recycling container at the tip.
I found a brand new mug with DS4s football team on it in the charity shop. It is not a local team. It was meant to be, 50p, and will annoy DS3. Will stick a few sachets of hot choc in it and it is an extra present that doesn't just involve a voucher code or computer games.
Got quoted nearly £200 for varifocals. Said I would think about it. Going for a varifocal contact lens talk today. I only have a prescription for one eye, the other one is window dressing, so I am curious about this.
A job has been advertised at head office for a new tier of administration. Someone else to have to get to know, and explain how events work in reality, as opposed to the Dizney view of events they seem to have.
One more tier to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them. 💍4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

It is 70+ miles away, the office politics is unreal, and I am happy to do short term contracts with them, but I could not bite my tongue for more than 10 days if in close contact . I know my own limitations. I have to be able to see the exit.

They wonder why so many go off sick due to mental health. It is time they looked at themselves and their toxic work environments.
