All the carers tell her she would not be happy in a residential unit, and that she should stay where she is. So she does. She sits and waits for death. It is awful.

They used to put them in a rehab unit for 6 weeks (non-paying) I don't know if they still do that.

Sadly it is not just the elderly, my cousin ended up in hospital before xmas, she has a degenerative neurological disease and took an unexplained bad turn, one side entirely unusable. Couldn't stand let alone walk because one leg was having none of it, would try and just crumple over. They still sent her home, not even a wheelchair provided. Ironically she actually works in the care industry herself.

She would have refused it, she just wanted to go home, then when she was home tonight, she rang all upset because, in her words, she had just swapped one prison (hospital) or another (her 4 walls). 

The rates of C0vid have spiked in NI and the hospitals are having trouble coping, as all those with co-morbidities who have been shielding, are now coming into contact with people who believe it to all be over, as the restrictions have been lifted, and they are all ending up in hospital with C0vid.

Made £12 on p/a today, so at least all the dd's will go out and Mr Overdraft will not be necessary for another month.

I overpaid 50% of the total permissible overpayment on the mortgage in the last 12 months so it is shiny new table week!!

Starting year 3 of the fixed term (1.79% for 5 years) and the allowed o/p amount is now £7,700 until end of Feb 23. Wondering if I should just pay it off in one go and then save money for the rest of the year.

Step-gran has been home for 24 hours, is very distressed, says she can do nothing, what is the point of taking her tablets, she just wants to go to sleep and slip away (one of the signs of heart failure is depression and whats-the-point-ery) - she has all the signs that she is on the way out.  I have cleared the diary until Easter, dh says he can do without me for up to 6 weeks.  She has said she wants me to take over all her financial affairs as she cant get it sorted in her head (confusion) and it is making her anxious (she does not even have to pay anything, as I have already set up dd's for all her accounts).   Opening an envelope leaves her panting for breath.  It is awful.  She is talking about being able to do nothing for herself, and that she wants to go into a home.  I am sure they would have offered her respite care for a couple of weeks when she left the hospital, but she just wanted to get home, then when she got home, realised what she had done.  She does not like her social worker, and does not want to contact her as she just wants to put her into a home (erm... thought that was the point? no? ) So  I will ring her between her afternoon and evening calls, and see how she is, and if she wants a housemate.

I suspect she has been a very determined lady & does not like anyone telling her what she should do.  Would she be self funding even for a while?  Maybe google the local care homes (I'll duck or even one near you) & make sure the ones you suggest are not ones suggested by the social worker.  They can be a little condescending & if Step gran has realised, she is never going to go along with her.  I guess SG whilst may be fading is not totally without IQ or oomph.  Good luck.

She had a visitor this afternoon that said she was going to ring me as  s/g shouldn't be on her own - visitor got very short shrift and told she was taking too much upon herself.

S/G was so annoyed she has now rejected all offers for me to come over, and she will let me know when she needs me. So that is me told then.  Should not be too long until she asks anyway.
