Well I looked at my alarm clock at 6am (I do not have it programmed to go off cos I tell my head what time to wake up and I just do) and thought 'do I really want to do this?' I did not have any music, my headphones do not work as an fm radio antenna for my phone, my dog's in the wash, yada yada yada, So lay there feeling annoyed at me for 15 minutes, and then got up, strapped on the lycra, was out the house at 6.30, I was aiming for a 5 minute outward, 5 minute back run, but it was all quite painless. It was nearly enjoyable! Not a soul around, I scared the sh1te out of a pair of squirrels up to no good, was cheered on by a blackbird, startled a few very fat pigeons, ended up doing 7 minutes out and 8 minutes back, so a 15 minute run which according to g00gley maps is a smidge over 2km. I was tempted to do more, but I know I am going to feel it in my knees and I want to be able to do it again tomorrow morning. No coughing, no ill effects, until after I had a bath and suddenly g0ot a really tight wheezy chest - one blast on the blue inhaler, and it is fine still tiny bit wheezy but nothing to write home about.. I have my eye set on the main ring road as the end to my run by this time next week, which will be a 3km round trip.I am fitter than I thought I was, as last time I tried this it was absolute torture. I was stopping all over the place. So this morning (after the run) I was 12.4 and I am aiming for 12.0 as fast as possible. DH spent 2 hours on his bike last night and was 12.0 this morning, which he is putting down to dehydration (alien abduction / Venus entering his Mars House etc). I told him he would be 12 by Monday but would he listen to me? Nooooo.Food yesterday was gorgeous - I made an Irish stew for tea, and lobbed half a sweetheart cabbage in there just for the hell of it, but accidentally made soda farls which were adored by all and are ridiculously quick and easy to make in a frying pan. Easy for kids to make and lovely comfort food. If you are planning an Irish themed meal. Also the best thing to toast in the morning for breakfast and are heavenly with marmalade. I forget my kids did not grow up with this stuff. I need to teach them these recipes.Right, coffee and politics and thinking about doing stuff.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Well done on getting out for a run, and great that it wasn't as tough as you expected. You are always so busy around the house doing things that I'm not surprised you're fitter than you think.
It's blowing a gale here atm, not cold but very blustery. I am in my lycra getting ready to head out and see my friend for our weekend run (we will be taking that running at a talking pace very seriously as usual lol)
I've never made soda farls, how do you do them? I do love a good stew or casserole. I think its some genetics from some Ukrainian/Russian heritage somewhere back along the line 😁Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

2 cups s/r flour. 1 tsp baking soda, 1 cup buttermilk (or sour milk or milk soured with vinegar) salt. make it into a dough ( it is roughly twice as much flour as liquid) make it into a round shape, put it in a frying pan and squash it down, cut into 4 pieces (farl = fourth) about 6 minutes on each side. Job done. Brilliant toasted, or you can pull each 1/4 apart into 2 pieces, and put the two middle sides on the frying pan and it toasts it immediately. It is a thing of beauty. Really tasty for practically no effort whatsover. Fresh bread in 15 minutes from thinking of it.

Soda farls are a regular for our NI household. We tend to use them to make cheese on toast sodas. Truly amazing but still not as good as potato bread though English husband prefers the sodaMortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Hi! Your diary was recommended by Moneywhizz over on my diary on the debt-free-wannabe board, and it looks like we are in a similar situation. I've had a good read today, and I'm very impressed with your groceries spends, especially as it sounds like your children are a bit older than my four, you have definitely inspired me to try and find some ys bargains too, any tips on when best to go? Good luck with your mortgage-free journeyMortgage-free wannabe!

My goodness I want soda farls now but they are definitely not allowed on my diet. Carbs make me very large indeed.
Well done on the running - I didn't get out for my walk yesterday but I reckon the cleaning and decorating made up for that. Not giving up
