can i just add that as someone who has had SEVERE postnatal depression, i wasnt at all offended by the origional titles... and as someone who has a type of epilepsy im not offended by the term "brainstorming" either ;) dare i say it... oh heck :D the worlds gone mad ;)

like you, I've suffered very badly post-natally (psychosis) & have had bouts of depression (I'm well just now though :)) & I was never the least bit offended by the names

in fact I thought they were great fun, in particular I can remember when I first came here laughing out loud at the (am I allowed to say it now? :silenced:) 'completely b****** over the top' one

    'Fraid so!

You'd better bin the Madness records too. And 'Fire' by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown.;)

Not sure about anything by MADonna though.:D

Best not even mention the Osmonds, then. that'll get the animal rights lot along, too. ;)
:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood
  • It might be worth noting that whilst "mad" and "bonkers" are used as slang for someone who has a zany or over the top personality, Geek and Nerd are really only ever used to describe people who have obsessive traits and, according to the dictionary, are
    1. A foolish, inept, or unattractive person.
    2. A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.
I think I'd rather be bonkers than an unattractive, foolish socially inept money saver.

What does offend me though is peeps who take it upon themselves to stipulate for others what should.

But then, don't let that get in the way of those who zealously go looking for offence.
That post wasn't an ordinary one like yours or mine Q - if you'd care to revisit they did give an authority to their request, neither did they speak for anyone else. I'm not offended neither am I taking offence on anyone elses' behalf - my understanding and stance of mental health issues are that they're the same as any other health issue and I've never associated mad and similar words to any health issue. But I learnt something new from their post unlike the ones here the same old tired posts of ridicule of imaginary those who zealously go looking for offence and I can appreciate why Martin and his forum team were willing to look into that request.
  • no but I am mildly offended by being called a geek
Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
    Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying
  • i can see the headlines now
"moneysavingexpert.com sued over loonie /mad/insane avatars"
and thats just those who joined sane but became mentally unstable after living in this site for so long :rotfl::rotfl:

SORRY...to anyone who genuinely has problems ,it's not funny i know.

I'm wondering why it is only now that it has been flagged up, after all it has been used for years on MSE?

Unless I'm wrong and there has been lot's of complaint's over the time MSE has been on the go
I got food in my belly and a license for my telly
And nothing's going to bring me down
  • but surely, whoever complained..MUST have known that our previous avatars were NOT aimed PERSONALLY at them...any (was going to say sane..oh dear this gets more complicated)...PERSON...would know from a quick looksie around the forums, that we were ALL mad/insane/loonies??

oh dear im now regarded as a geek? :(

Lucky you. I aspire to geekness

    ;) :D

Edited to Add: By the way, my father is in the local psychiatric ward at the moment. He is fully aware that his thought process has gone a bit haywire and refers to himself as being 'a bit mad' and that he's having a bit of a rest at what he calls the 'Funny Farm'. If I asked him the question as to whether or not he'd be offended if someone referred to themselves as being mad he'd just tell you to "P*ss off and do summat important instead"

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.
