End of the day you can not book three people into a double room

There is usually a chair or sofa bed or a cot if required

I think we can assume that she did not tell the hotel that 3 people would be staying in 1 room.

So I didn't feel it necessary to ask how the hotel agreed to let them in.

Maybe they stayed in the car while she picked up the keys. I don't know.

Apparently there is just no WAY to evade hotel policy so this must be made up.

Well it's like this with every hotel we have ever booked. You can NOT book a double room for more than 2 people... So when she booked, then she can't have said there was 3 people. Otherwise the booking would have been rejected.

If she booked it online the booking would have failed, and if she did it over the phone (like with a family owned B & B,) the proprietor would have said they need triple or a family room. So as I said, it doesn't add up. Your MIL isn't telling you the whole story.

Upshot is, she must have said there would be 2 people. But why would she do that? Who the heck would wanna share a bed with 2 teens who would probably be adult size?

It's easy. You just select "2" in the number of people drop down.

It could have been one of those family rooms you get in cheap ibis type hotels.

It's not something I'd do myself, particularly as I _am_ lesbian, and my girlfriend is a lot older (!), but the OP is all a bit vague about her concerns. Maybe it's for moneysaving: who is paying for it all? When I stay in hotels because I'm travelling I tend to fall asleep as soon as I get in because of all my previous activities. I've shared in a same sex situation for convenience and sexual orientation has really been irrelevant.

Nah even in IBIS, they wouldn't let you book 3 people into a double.

And moneysaving isn't likely to be the issue because whenever we book a triple or a family room, (with a budget hotel like Novotel, Ibis, Travelodge, Premier,) it's never any more money than a double.

Well yeah, but you did that on purpose..... But you're telling us that your MIL didn't know it was gonna be just a double bed for 3 of them... aren't you?.......

what I'm finding difficult to comprehend is that apparently your MIL booked a room with not enough beds for the 3 guests, for nearly a week. Why would she do that? All thats likely to achieve is everyone getting crabby and on each others nerves through lack of a decent sleep.
I've taken my daughter and her friend away for 4 nights before, we had a family room for the 3 of us, no problems - but there were plenty of beds for everyone.

So she DID book the double for 3 of them on purpose then?

If I was the girls parents I would not be happy that she had lied about the booking- but I'm confused as to why she would lie in the first place.
