Yes I think you've right there. Regrettably the writing seems to be on the wall for the now-corrupted Labour Party. It's time for a rethink of the left of British political opinion.

A few designations of Labour who resubmit themselves for reelection as a newly formed "Real Labour Party", use of that mandate for the rest of the Labour MPs to jump ship and mass exodus of Labour MPs to the new party and formation of the official opposition and possible re-election at the next GE.

I hope they like walking because they'll barely be taking any of the membership with them.

Mind you it might do them some good to go out and actually meet some of the people in the constituencies they are meant to be representing.

I wonder how many leaflets Liz Lendall can fit in her Louis Vitton handbags...

Why be so critical? Surely you do not want party members who do not believe in your cause? There is more to getting elected than pounding pavements.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.
  • Hi Rugged, how goes it this weekend?

I was wondering what you think of the Mayor of London's views on the Dear Leader?

    Just curious.

quite a liitle sexist aren't we : but that par for course for the trotskyite, sexist, antisemite, IRA bomber loving clique that now lead the labour party.

One would say so what. A Labour party unattached to some of the Unions in this country could be very appealing.

ruggedtoast is the best advert for the Tory party I've yet to meet.
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and who weren't so lazy.”

They can't afford to split for several reasons.
As the New Statesman points out, it is theoretically possible — albeit unlikely — for the majority of Labour MPs to somehow ignore or expel Corbyn from the Parliamentary Labour Party and to obtain recognition as the official Opposition, ignoring the actual membership of the party.

So Labour faces two basic choices, both of which are terrible.
    1. Stick with Corbyn, and get wiped out in the 2020 general election, creating a generation of unopposed Conservative rule.
    2. Split the party, and face oblivion.
The first scenario is currently the most likely.

Though I think the 'generation' of unopposed Tory rule is pushing things a bit far. And anyway, Owen Smith is only going to face exactly the same treatment as Corbyn is getting now from the media if he wins. Let's not pretend otherwise. Being Welsh and not able to vote as PM on a lot of matters due to EVEL would be the most obvious place to start.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Most will know how they're voting already imo ( I know you were asking for rugged's ). But if it's anything like the numerous high profile interventions in the Scottish ref, and then the likes of Obama in the EU ref. It'll simply harden Corbyn's support, and diminish goodwill towards Khan considerably... which even I can see happening already on social media even though my feeds are mostly Scotland based.

Extinction is a natural process. As you are witnessing in Scotland. Time won't wait.

Corbyn's still going to win though. And to be absolutely honest, I can see things are developing roughly along the lines of the Scottish referendum campaign.

Step 1 ) Was to totally demonise the leader ( Salmond in the previous case )

Step 2 ) Was to flood the mainstream media with so much anti-independence/Corbyn rhetoric that people leaning that way took to social media and blogs to interact with each other.

Step 3) Was to start demonising those that took part in social media. Cybernats/Corbynista's/Cults/Dear Leader etc.

These people above start losing faith in the press and the general media. And on public commentary areas and forums like these are simply dismissed as nutters. You can see the above happening with ruggedtoast. Who has gone from ruggedtoast to 'toastie' as I went from Shakethedisease to STD ( <-- which I found funny ).

Now Corbyn might not win in 2020, but all the signs for me are there of at least the possibility of some big surprises. Salmond went from a lost cause at 28% for independence in 2011 to 45% in 2014 with the full weight of UK media 24/7 and every other political party against. Khan's intervention I can assure you has simply hardened Corbyn's support further. And the next time he appears anywhere, there will be twice as many there as the last time. Rinse and repeat for the next few years. Unlike Salmond who plodded on appearing and getting pelters every time he appeared on tv or interviewed in the press, Corbyn seems to have given up on MSM already which is probably a good thing. He can't do anything right so why bother trying. He's there for the long haul though, once he wins. He'll drag Labour left in the process. Then make way for a new leader that doesn't think abstaining on Welfare Bill's is a good thing to do <-- why Corbyn won largely in the first place.

This isn't even factoring in the Tories making any blunders, particularly on Brexit and the potential for in-fighting there. 2020 is eons away in political terms.
