I took one bag of 5p to local post office, which I use regularly for other things and the woman did change it but said she would not in future as this service was only for business customers.

So I informed her that I would save up my 5ps and 1ps and 2ps and pay my car tax with it when it is due.

    :rotfl:
I am NOT a mortgage & insurance adviser - or anything to do with finance, that was put on by the new system I dont know why?!

  • This happened to me today - I only counted half my money but knew I ad in excess of £110 in just 20p 50p and 10p's. not including my large amount of copper and 5p's.

The Coinstar machine gave me a voucher for £94 which I knew was in excess of £50 short. I have complained and am too waiting for an audit - but I am not going to let this lie - most people using these machines do so because they don't have time to count the money so have no idea of what will come out.

I will update the thread when I get my outcome but would love to hear from others in my situation?

    Thanks
  • Rather than let it get up to that amount why not put change in smaller amounts eg £10 worth into a Supermarket self service machine for free and pay any balance with card if need be.
  • Just to report for all the South Yorkshire bods, HSBC in Meadowhall have got a coin machine which is available 8am while 8pm on weekdays... can't remember the weekend opening.
Thank you so much for this information as I'm fed up of giving charity money to Asda :T

My partner who is registered blind and finds spending change difficult used to use these machines. Yes it is quite convenient using these machines which are in lots of supermarkets. I have recently started to change his silver with my own pound coins and spending the change in shops to help him save the the comission, but to discover people may be being shortchanged too very concerning, especially that due to the fact they are completley unaware of how much they are putting in and therefore oblivious to the fact. I plan to continue to help my partner by changing the money myself in small amounts at a time and probably take the copper bagged to my local NatWest.

Actually they could refuse to take them, there is a limit to how much you can be asked to take in each denomination as a retailer. I think they are allowed to refuses if not reasonable
Thanks to all who post here:beer:

Larger branches of Natwest have coin counting machines also.

Thank you for this suggestion, currently my nearest NatWest with a coin machine is in town which would not be financially benefical taking into account petrol, car parking etc, but live in hope that the most convenient branch to me which is on the way home from work with free parking gets a coin machine. Since it is located in a large shopping centre would be great for customers!
