Kingston is a bit far for me to get to with huge carrier bags of coins. (Yep...i have that many !!!). I'm near Harlesden...does anybody know if a HSBC branch has a coin counting machine in ealing, hammersmith or anywhere else close by.
I've called the HSBC call centre and they really don't have a clue.

Just take the 18 t Baker Street

I used a Coinstar machine this morning. I counted the money before I left home and reckon I had just over £170 in my bag. I tried to take it to the bank but they would only take 5 bags of coins per day so had to resort to Coinstar in my local supermarket. I tipped the coins in which to a while & to my horror the balance was £109.61. Deduct the fee and I ended up with £99.85!!!!! I tried to complain in the supermarket and was told I had to call coinstar. I did and whilst they initially tried to fob me off they are investigating the machine. Now I know some coins may weigh slightly less than they are supposed to but those should have been dropped back to me. I didn't mind the fee but to con me out of £60 is just plain wrong. I now have to wait 5-7 business days for the machine to be audited. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt for the moment but will update in a week or so.

    So what happened?

natwest have one of these machines but they get really arsey if you put anything in more than a pocketful of change - it's a real pain.

do hsbc allow you to deposit decent amounts?

They didn't get arsey with me when I had 5 bags of coins I was about to give over the counter, they just showed me the machine and how to use it.

I'll be using the Natwest machines again.

yea, they watch you approach the machine and have a little sign up.

i had one of the staff have a go at me saying it's not a coinstar machine and if i wanted to cash as much coinage, i should go there. i made the point that i don't bank with coinstar, i bank with natwest.

I don't see what the problem is with just counting them out, putting the correct amounts in money bags and going to the bank.

I've never been turned down by the bank.

i'm very happy for you anotheruser, honestly i am.

my brother, who is autistic, can't count the coins and prefers to see them disappear into the counting machine

I'd put in a complaint. That's an awful attitude to take to your customers.

"You know that machine we have that takes in large amounts of coin? Well stop putting large amounts of coin in it."

    that's essentially it.

'use our coin machine, but don't put too many coins in please ta'

it has a 'no coins above this level' marker on the machine, put on by the manufacturer, but you're not allowed to get even close to it before the hawk-eyed staff are on you, telling you to go to a coinstar machine

Is there a list anywhere of which branches have those machines?
