Hi there, there's not much more to the recipe than that. I just lightly cooked the leek for a couple of minutes and then added the barley and stock and cooked until the barley was tender. I hope you enjoy it :)

Fab, I'll give it a try on Sunday I think! Thanks!

Ok, so it's going to be REALLY TIGHT - the unplanned spend of the cheese has thrown the budget, but hey..... spent £6.83 today, but got a ton of stuff and also my salad stuff.

Ooh, what cheese did you get?
I have a delivery of Nutcrafter cheeses coming today, nearly two weeks after ordering them! Luckily was in last months budget and already paid for though, as very expensive! They are so good though...I thoroughly recommend the "Indulgent" - it's a fresh chevre style "cheese" with chives... really tangy and delicious!

I managed to go Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday without buying groceries...feeling quite pleased with that as I realised a few times how I was about to pick something up and then thought no, I don't NEED that! I think I must have been doing that a LOT! Yesterday just bought some wraps for 89p.
However, I have now run down my fridge completely of all fresh veg - used the last bits to make myself a chickpea herby salad for lunch today, which I'm looking forward to!
I'm away on a hen do from Saturday after lunch until Sunday lunchtime, but as I have nothing but onions and a potato or two left (in terms of fresh stuff) I'm debating doing my fresh shop tonight. I'm predicting being pretty hanging on Sunday when I get back, so not only will I not want to go to the shops, but I'll be highly likely to buy bad things! I've just talked myself into it, shop tonight it is! All I need is fresh veg, stock cubes, Shreddies and almond milk... hopefully I'll be disciplined! Will try and do a mini meal plan too... Already know I will be doing leek barlotto and bean casserole.

Welcome back Eric - great to 'see' you again :D

If the lid hasn't 'bulged' and it looks and smells okay then I would use it. Just make sure it's bubbling hot eh.

Hope you all having a great Friday

Chickpea Salad - My "end of fresh stuffin the fridge lunch" - really glad I generally always have fresh herbs, they make any meal delicious!

Chickpeas which I cooked from dried the other day
Cucumber, cherry tomatoes (Organic vine ones that were yellow stickered!), spring onion, half a green chilli, lots of mint and coriander, and salt and black pepper.

I like using dried beans and have a good stock of them - admittedly I do buy cans sometimesif I haven't planned well enough, but they are still cheap. I like to cook a big batch of beans and then keep some in the fridge to use over the next few days, and freeze the rest. It's a good idea to do this in portions!

Spent £22 today at Aldi, that included £12 on a bottle of gin and some tonics, so a tenner on food ;)

That will take us through till Wednesday :)
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

    £300/£130
  • Small spend today on bread rolls and 2 stamps, £1.99

Did spend £1.50 on animal food at our local farm, for the DDs but don't think I'll count that in food budget
Used a free return ticket which was great, took a picnic lunch, hence why I need to replace the bread rolls and my dad bought the coffees. So a really cheap day out!

    Total spends so far £38.90

£28.25 today in Aldi, which should cover us until next week - might need some bits like milk but that'll be about it.

    Total so far is £43.95

Aiming to not go to the shops until next Wednesday now.
