Hopefully the EU will make this a non-negotiable condition for gaining single market access.

Expect to see a *massive* backlash from the Leave camp if this happens. This is a testable prediction that I really hope is tested.

If that is the EU's position then we will not join the single market.

That would cripple the UK economy, but that doesn't mean you're wrong.

And you just made another testable prediction, which is good.

Code monkey is an IT term, not really derogatory. I call myself a code monkey, well, software simian.

That is always a problem using industry specific expressions - how they are viewed by outsiders.

I once worked with a chap whose wife came out with the expression "when I was on the game". I imagine my facial expression alerted her to the need to add with a smile " I was a midwife, that's how we described the job"
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

Plenty of psychotic murderers on the rampage on mainland Europe at the moment. Better make sure you don't recruit one of them.

I'm not inclined to hate and fear people from other countries, with different skin colours, and who speak different languages. Sorry about that.

Well it would in no way cripple the UK economy, but you have made a testable prediction so that is good.
It would certainly damage it in the short-medium term.
However, it would also damage the economies of a number of EU countries.

Which is exactly why such a scenario will not arise.

Large numbers do so you're demonstrably wrong.
In what world is referring to an employee as a monkey acceptable?

I was using it in a jokey and only slightly derogatory way. We work in a *very* complex area, and it's the difference between employing someone who can design a Formula 1 engine versus someone who can do an oil change on a Fiesta. The latter are spanner monkeys, and they are probably great guys, but not engineers,

But you raise an interesting point. I spent many years as the only non-Japanese director of a Japanese company. In a long and complex meeting, where no-one cared to translate and I didn't expect them to, I heard the phrase "Saru-de" and people chuckled. My Japanese is a bit rubbish, so I ignored it, but a few minutes later it happened again. It turns out that they meant moving from pilot production in Japan to mass production in China.

    Saru-de means "monkey style".

Japan is the most racist country I have ever visited, but it sounds like parts of the UK are similarly afflicted.
I do hope you relocate your business elsewhere in the EU. We won't miss you.

We won't relocate but we will make the changes that Brexit forces us to make. This won't damage our business but will be negative for the UK economy.

I'm sure you won't miss me personally, or the people I employ, but the damage to UK GDP and employment figures won't be brushed off quite as easily.

OK, unfair to generalise, but the statistic certainly show that leave voters are heavily against immigration.

Many people put quality of life before money. Not that they are seeing any benefit anyway with average wages barely keeping pace with inflation for the past 15 years. A financially well off mobile elite aren't representative of the majority.

I don't see what their nationality etc. has got to with it. Just glad my government saw fit to try and protect me from them.

I go further and really hope the UK can retain these precious freedoms as otherwise we're in big trouble. Hopefully the EU will make this a non-negotiable condition for gaining single market access.

They are already backtracking on it according to press articles over the last couple of days (which of course may be as reliable as next months weather forecast). And why not? USA, Canada dont have open borders with the EU and they seem to trade with Europe without any issues, so why cant the UK ?
