  • I would report them because thats money that could be going to someone who actually deserves it. You can report them anonymously, just google report benefit fraud.

    Just throwing this out there;

If you knew someone was committing benefit fraud, would you report them?

Yes, in a heartbeat, disgusting that people get away with it. Should be harsher sentences for it too

    Situation is:

A mum of 2 children claims she is a single parent living alone, so she has all her rent paid for (approx. £800 a month) plus she receives benefits for the children, I don't know how much Child Tax Credit she receives.

But her partner does live with her (7 nights a week he's there) plus he has a full time job, so he gives her money for bills, food etc

I'd take their circumstances into account but usually, yes I would.. and I have, several times reported people and also on other occasions understood their reasons and not.

eta.. that situation.. yes, in a heartbeat, without a second thought.

    Hi Pollycat

Im in too minds what to do to be honest, so for me it helps to get other people's opinions on what they would do and why.

I guess fraud is fraud and should be reported, just the repercussions could be big for the people involved

You've just answered your own question.
If they were worried about the repercussions then they should not be committing fraud.

If I do report, how could it be proved?

He is not listed as living there at all, his bank account and mobile are not registered there.

The money he gives her, he gives her in cash

So if she was called in for questioning she can produce her bank statements that would show no extra money going in, just her benefits.

Plus HMRC would find nothing that ties him to her address at all
  • If you report it and they investigate, it might give her a wake up call to stop claiming any more and then you know you have done all you can.

they have been known to sit outside addresses and watch the comings and goings of people. soon easy to see if someone is living there or not.

That's for the people investigating to sort out though.
