Benefit Fraud

Good question, I suppose I've always dithered and thought 'oh its nothing to do with me' and 'Im sure they will get caught eventually'
But obviously they haven't. Plus it was a good point that my tax and NI is funding this.
Me and my partner both work full time and pay our mortgage and childcare for our child with no help (well apart from the £82 a month child benefit)0 -

For his bank account and mobile he uses his Mum's address.
But he has not spent a night at his Mum's house for at least 3 years
Then it's clear cut, report it in my opinion, this type of fraud is really unacceptable.0 -

They also at that time (although it may have changed now) had the power of entry into people's houses any time of day or night and I remember him telling me that they would go very early in the morning, go upstairs and feel under the bedcovers to see if it was warm on both sides! Yuk....
Wouldn't be a job for me I have to say, but I do agree that in the case that you've cited they are well aware of the rules and the consequences of being found out too.
I would report them.
Your friend is talking absolute rubbish, no one has unrestricted access to other people property.0 -

she has all her rent paid ...approx. £800 a month plus... he gives her money for bills, food etc
You do realise that she is STEALING more money than someone working hard in a full-time job at minimum wage gets in a year! This isn't the odd basket of ironing that someone alluded to earlier.
If, as you say, they have already got away with it for years, just work out how much they have swindled out of the rest of us.
Would I report it? Too right I would because I'd prefer to see that money used to get my neighbour his hip replacement without waiting another agonising 12 months for it or an extra nurse in my local children's ward or another bobby on the beat.
Selfish, conniving cheats with no honour deserve to get found out especially when they haven't even got enough moral fibre to keep quiet about their rotten ways.1 -
£800 in housing benefit a month, for three years...that's £28,800
And that's before you even begin to calculate the value of the other benefits she's claiming.
Three years is a long time and that's one hell of a lot of money. In those circumstances, I'd report them asap.0 -
They only live in a flat, but we're in the South East where rents are expensive0

To answer the original question, yes, I would report it. I play by the rules and I expect others to do the same. This means I always get VAT invoices from VAT registered businesses (no discounts for cash), have never inflated an insurance claim, I even got my tax code adjusted downwards to take account of the little bit of interest my bank account pays, before the rules on taxation of savings interest changed this year. When I was on income support (as it was called at the time) I sent back the last cheque from the DHSS as I started work on the last day of the fortnight it covered. I got a lot of "why did you do that, they'll never find out" type comments at the time, and the reason was I had a wage (or at least would at the end of the month) so it did not feel right keeping the money.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230

You arent't the same poster who posted about your birthday when you lent your bf 100 quid to buy your birthday present and then he blew it all on drink. And then people were warning you not to try for a baby with someone who was acting like a complete waste of space?
My point is, you need to get your own house in order before poking your nose into other people's business.
Either report it or don't, but if youve known about this for three years you really don't have much right to judge, you've known about it all this time and allowed it to go on.0 -
            Yes, I would report it.
Somehow I have been reported for fraud and have had to give a whole heap of documents to tax credits to prove that I'm not living with someone (I did until April, but it was my brother, not a boyfriend).
The annoying thing is I don't even get tax credits any more as I earn too much, so not sure why they are investigating.
But the person in question is getting £800 plus a month free when I have to go to work and not see my kids because no one will pay my mortgage for me, so yes, I would report them. If they have nothing to hide, then they have nothing to fear.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010
