Op you know what the right thing to do is. You would not of posted the question otherwise. What you wanted was for people to validate your decision.
OP you need to call them. The benefit system is there to help people and they are not stupid they will find out in the end.
I understand it must feel like a hard choice family etc but it is not. Its black over white, right over wrong. Call them.Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
I wouldn't report something like the odd cash in hand job, while on benefits, but this large figure being claimed is something else.
The pot is limited, so someone, probably in need, is going without.
Reporting doesn't always mean investigation, either.
I know someone who reported a person (whose circumstances they well knew) on DLA and other benefits, who was actually doing a cash in hand job (heavy manual lifting), which his exaggerated disability (bad back), if genuine, would have made impossible.
Nothing was done, as the authorities took the word of the employer that work was not being done, yet it would have been easy to plant someone to observe, because the work was being done openly.0 -
Yes that was me :-)
I must give my partner credit for changing a hell of a lot in the last 3 years, he has worked his way up to get a much better job than he had before, earning about 10k a year more.
At least he earnt the 100 quid and didn't get it through fraud0 -
I'd report it in a heartbeat.
It's theft, plain and simple, and that theft is taking money away from people and places where it is really needed.0 -
I think this would make my mind up for me, almost bragging that they are abusing the system.chelseablue wrote: »Oh they're quite open about it :eek:0 -
I know somebody who took in a lodger but didn't tell the benefits office. They found out, but weren't able to take him to court because there was no rent book, no paperwork to be able to prove anything.
The vast majority of calls to the benefit fraud hotline are made by people who've got unsettled business with the alleged fraudster. (Arguments, etc)
I would just ask yourself what you are hoping to gain by reporting them, and how you would feel, knowing that you have alerted the authorities. The fact that you are on here asking seems to suggest that you have your doubts about reporting them?0 -
If I wasn't related to them Id be on the phone as I type.
I guess maybe Im worried that if it was ever found out that it was me who reported them I'd be disowned or something0 -
