Just keep your passport in maiden name until it runs out,but remember to book holidays also in maiden name.If you really want to change name on passport it will cost you the full amount as if applying for a new one."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0

Thank you for replying
Mutley - And you have had no problems using this self written deed poll? My worry is that I make my own or use an online service and then get told its not valid so would be reassuring to know someone has done this with no trouble when applying to banks/passports etc0 -

I had NO problems at all. As long as you use the correct legal wording and get 2 witness signatures, then its a legal document. There is a goverment guidance leaflet in name changing if you can try googling for it.
Saved me a few pounds from going to an online company to get it done. Just make sure you get spare copies made, as you will need it for passport agency, banks, pension providers, etc etc.0 -
I did my daughters a few years ago now at home, it was supported by a fathers consent form (also made by me - he signed it!) we sent her passport away first, knowing that would be the ultimate test. Everything has been fine ever since. Just make sure you spell the names correctly!0

I used an online service called UKDPS (it googles, i just checked). I was incredibly tempted to moneysave-it-up and sod paying for it, but I went with them in the end as I wanted some certified copies too and would have had to pay someone at some point. The original documents from them come in a nice card wallet, with a little red paper rosette embossed onto the page etc which makes them seem nice and official (I know this has no legal significance, but when going over this with customer service types who dont actually understand that a self-statement is legal, looking 'official' seems to help).
I've used them personally and a mate has too. No issues to report on either occasion.0 -
Hi
I am thinking to change my name on my UK passport through Deed Poll process. Just want to know that if my previous name will still be on the passport or on the Data Base in anyway???0 -
I think you will have to change your passport once you have changed your name as it is a legal name change. You send it off with all the supporting documents and get your new one with your new name ( and that will have no mention of your previous name on it). You will always have to provide proof of your change of name for any legal documents etc in the future ie mortgage applications, bank accounts, marriage etc (where previous names are requested).JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200
FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

I was just going to say, by the sounds of it you are trying to erase all knowledge of your previous name. This will not be the case as you always have to declare and provide your previous names on legal (and some every-day) documents. And there will always be a record of it.0
