Changing Name By Deed Poll questions (merged)

You don't have to get it witnessed, yu just sign it yourself. When my dd was 17 she changed her surname, she signed the deed poll and both myself and my ex husband had to do letters of consent. She changed her passport first with no problems. She is now 21 and everything is in her new name.0

Not many people know this but if you are on benefits or low income, you can get it done for free under the legal help scheme by a solicitor. Just call a local solicitor and ask them to do a quick eligibility calculation. I do them alot when people start divorce proceedings.Proud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0

Ask if they advise under the legal help, advice and assistance scheme (or legal aid to put it simply!) and if they can draw up a change of name deed.Proud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0 -
I posted a few weeks ago about wanting to change my name.
ive decided to use the legaldeedpollservice.org website to do so. prices are reasonable and it all seems legit.
i was wondering if anyone who has done this before knows in what order to tell each organisation eg banks, council, passport etc.
Is it easier to do some before others?0 -
We changed our Surname back in 1997, all i did was photocopy the officail name deed with a covering letter and sent them all of on the same day. Although we found Banks took a little longer to change details over. I found that sending the letter and requesting a new Medical card that they auto advised the Doctors/Hospital/Dentist Hope this Helps.£2 Pig has £86 in his Tummy. I am seriuosly Become a O/S Saver0

When i changed my surname last october i had to use the actual real deed poll. Not many places accept photocopys now.
Banks gave it back to me same day as they photocopied it.
Passport company sent it back to me seperatly from my passport.
With your driving licsense, do your passport first as you can use your passport number to prove who you are for a driving licsense
Doctors just looked and changed my name on the system and my work photocopied it for there records.
Some places i just called and they did it, like my credit card.

Yes, lots of places want to see the original document- so for your passport you'll need to send it and they'll post it right back. Your driving license will be ok because they can check the details via the passport office.
You'll need to take it into the bank and they'll change it there and then. Photocopies are ok for some things, so keep a few around.
When they send your deed poll certificate they'll send a handy list of people you need to inform too.0 -
Thanks.
Were you charged by any of the organisations.
I know for the passports i'll be charged but of the 3 im changing 2 have almost run out anyway.
I was thinking more along the lines of banks and insurance companies (usually charge for basic admin costs)0
