My Husband took my name upon marraige, you do not need deed poll. My Husband got his bank accounts, driving licence, passport and all other documentation by showing our marriage certificate. Thats all you need.Competitions wins 2010

I have just been looking this up on the internet and it seems the op may be right and though many things can be changed just with a marriage cert some banks etc would require a deed poll change.
I would speak to your bank, D.V.L.A passport office etc and see what their policy is.
You don't want to spend money on deed poll if you don't have to.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
P.s this seems totally out of order when it is so much simpler for a woman.
Apparently people in civil partnerships have the same problem!!I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
I got married in Las Vegas in 2000, Was worried it being an American marriage certificate but we had no problem changing bank accounts, Abbey National, Passport, Driving licence and mortgage and deeds to house. My Husband just sent off original marriage certificate and all was changed , no cost no problems. They can not discriminate against men when women use their marriage certificate for change of name all the time.Competitions wins 2010

3. Changing the name in your passport following your marriage or civil partnership
If you have recently married and wish to take your husband or wife's surname, your marriage certificate will be accepted by the Passport Office as documentary evidence of your change of surname. Similarly, if you have entered into a civil partnership and wish to take your partner's surname, your civil partnership certificate will be accepted. The Passport Office will also accept a marriage certificate or a civil partnership certificate as documentary evidence of a change to a double-barrelled surname i.e. your surname combined with your spouse's or civil partner's surname e.g. Smith-Jones or Smith Jones. In all the above situations, a Deed Poll is not required for the Passport Office. Passport application packs are available from most post officesCompetitions wins 2010

You’ll also need to provide evidence if your name has changed and is different to the identity document you provide, eg an original marriage certificate, decree nisi or absolute, or deed-poll declaration.

Hi All,
I recently got married abroad and as well as taking my husband's surname, I would like to keep my maiden name, but as a middle name. I understand that this needs to be done via deed poll.
Having done a search on Google, there seem to be many results and varying sites offering deed polls from less then £10 up to £40 or so - one site will even generate the paperwork for free!
What I wanted to know was, would I be wasting money by going for one of the more expensive deed poll sites, or is it a case of 'you get what you pay for'?
I can't really find many reviews or recommendations, apart from one site www.ukdps.co.uk . Does anyone have any experience of the other sites, or can advise me on a cheaper (and legal) site to use?
Many thanks,
BDJ xBelly by name, JELLYBELLY by nature!
