Sky TV retention deals ( post your haggling successes )

Its time to renew and with the end of contract price increase looming I got in touch via live chat. The offer was pretty poor - £72.50 for Signature, Sports, Cinema, Multiscreen, Netflix with Ads and HD, at the last renewal it was £62. I cancelled 2 weeks ago, but despite the agent keeping me on for 30 mins before initiating the cancellation there has been nothing from retentions since.

It does seem they are less bothered than the previous cancellations. I’m pretty sure it was within a few days that I got a call from retentions on previous occasions to stay. I am happy to cancel for a few months if need be, as the base cost is just getting ridiculous and with in contract increases baked in it is getting quite pricey.

You say £62 last renewal (12 or more months) so what was the April price rise you had to extra?

You seem to be happy/content with the service going off and no contact from Sky so you could let it go off for a few months and see how you get on.

You may find that you don't miss it at all.

It was £62 when I last did the 24 month contract in 2024, since then it climbed to £76 with the in contract price increases.

Yes, I think going without for a few months will be fine, 80% of our viewing is free to air programming and streaming apps. It just feels much more of an effort these days to get them down to a reasonable price.

Are Sky slower at updating their systems these days. I got a contract renewal deal yesterday but no sign of the updated bills etc yet. Always been instant previously. Maybe just a weekend thing.

No I'm going to contact them tomorrow if nothing comes through. Thanks for that.

Edit. Did ring them and deal hadn't gone through. They then said today's deal is £55 but I explained I wanted the original one

They then proceeded to offer me £52.50 which was a better one. Very strange but happy with that without having to cancel.

My Sky Q deal is up in September and did a live chat with them this morning. I had the Signature package only and was paying £37:50 per month. I've moved to Sky Stream Ultimate (we don't record much) and the full fibre Gigafast Broadband for £45 per month for a 2 year fix. Seemed like a good deal bearing in mind my Plusnet Broadband was £35.99 alone.

They reserve the right to increase prices within the contract unfortunately so I get that it won't be that price throughout the 2 years. Seemed like a good deal on the basis that it's only £4 more than they offer to new customers who always get better deals.

My Sky subscription is due for renewal in September 2026

sky have advised that my current package can be taken on a 24 month contract at£100.00 per month which has increased from my current payment of £61.50.

They have also given the following option

If you don't do anything, you will continue to enjoy:

Multiscreen
Ultimate TV Pack
This package also provides you with access to the following services: discovery+, Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix Standard with Ads, Sky Go Extra
After 20 September 2026, you will pay £61.50 a month.
	Your new price includes discounts totalling £52.50 a month. The first discount will expire on 20 September 2027. After this time, your bill amount will change.
With this option, you have the added flexibility to start a new contract with us or choose a new package at any time.

I always thought they wanted to lock you into a new 24 month contract, looks like I can pay as I go for a further 12 months without a contract.

Just checking I am not missing anything as I am happy to pay that without a long term contract.
