In view of the excellent advice here, my plan was to cancel my Sky BB + TV via online chat (they did offer me some money off but as expected it wasn't enough).

I was then going to get a new BB supplier lined up, and take my chances with TV, see what the post-cancellation offers from Sky might be.

However, the representative said that the way to cancel is to sign up with a new supplier who will automatically switch me. That sort of took the wind out of my sails as I was planning to sit back and wait. How do I cancel rather than switch? Or do I switch and wait for a better Sky offer during the 14-day cooling off period?
If you cancel BB, you'll find it difficult to sign up to a new one without being without the service for a period of time, or at least paying for both. Safest way is as they said - initiate a transfer via your new supplier.

I found getting BB from a different supplier made it much simpler to negotiate the TV package, as I could cancel without fear of losing BB. I'm not convinced having BB with Sky makes much difference in the ability to get a better price for TV with them.

``I left it as cancelled.  No idea what Sky are thinking, but I'll never be paying those prices.  Virgin Media are offering significant deals for new customers, with 350mb broadband I can get most of the above (minus UHD which I'm not fussed about) for less than £83pm.  The family lose their recorded items on Sky Q but, it’s considerably cheaper than paying Sky's rip off charges``.
``Just be careful what you wish for when it comes to VM``

I moved from being a Sky customer for 10 years back to Virgin Media in November.  Absolutely no problems and the Broadband/WiFi is amazing, TV is no different once you find you way around their V360 box and I am £40 a month better off for moving.

I've always had my broadband with VM (issues with BT's line at my property) and I can't fault it, it's stable and an excellent speed.  VM's customer service is debatable (as is Sky's!)

Absolutely horrendous unreliable service. That goes for both TV and internet.
Never had a single issue with Virgin in 24 years..

Highly unlikely you’re the exception to the rule.

VM are consistently voted the worst ISP and Downdetector always reporting outages. Always.

I've found VM connection very reliable and speed is also very good. Agree customer service is poor but VM more reliable than Openreach in my area

However, you are entering a world of pain if you need to contact them about anything.

I gave notice to cancel Sky+ a few weeks ago, I'm a Sky customer of 24 years, I'm ambivalent as to whether I would renew - if they came back with a decent offer based on some of the prices quoted on this forum I would renew but if not I'll move on.  I'm a bit surprised though  that no one has been in touch even though when I cancelled I ticked the box that said I would be open to offers.  My question for this forum is that I wonder if this is because I have a Sky+ box and they are trying to phase out those.  Are they waiting for the cancellation to happen and only then will they come back with offers only on their newer boxes, Q or Glass?
I left Sky last year afer 20+ years.
I told them their price increases were excessive and I no longer wanted to accept them, but they didn't come up with any improvements.
I received many generic offers in the post, but they were really just the same.
A year on there have been maybe one or two things I might've watched on Sky, but nothing that made me think twice about having left.
I might take a month on Now if I get a real hankering to watch some Sky series; perhaps if a special offer drops in later in the year.
