  • Has anyone else received an email from sky to say that they’ve noticed they are coming to the end of their deal and they have extended them for 12 months with no new contract?
I've had these kinds of "discounts" offered previously. For some people this is acceptable but you must remember this will be much more expensive than you can achieve through canceling or even speaking with retentions. Good rule of thumb is you should aim for a price approx 50% of the full price. In some cases discounts can be higher. For example you have been offered £12 discount on Multiroom over a 12 month period. That is only £1 per month saving. Whereas I currently pay £2.50 for Multiscreen (a £12.50 saving per month- equalling £150 saving over 12 months). All the best!
Tell us what you decide to do
I received a similar post but when I looked at the detail the Signature and Cinema discounts had been applied the same but the Sports discount had been reduced so the offer was not quite as the email stated! So make sure you check your future bills and the offers have been extended as you believe. I rang Sky and got no success with offshore but a week later rang again and got through to Retentions UK and they re-applied the extra Sports discount. £44 per month for Signature, Sports and Cinema. Even though I could probably do better I decided to keep the offers as it’s the same price I’ve been paying and reasonably satisfied with the price, saved a lot of re-negotiating / cancel time and most importantly I’m no longer in contract as no new contract required to extend the offers. So if I’m unhappy with next year’s price increase I can re-negotiate/ cancel.

I prefer to concentrate on overall package price Vs amount of discounts- as Sky seem to apply very different discounts to products depending on who you speak to.
All my discounts are valid until June next year so thankfully I don't need to do this dance for a long time.
My package is Sky Signature, Sports, HD, UHD, Netflix Premium and Multiscreen for £57.50 per month.

  • Hi All,

Sky is up for renewal this week.

For last 18 months I have been paying £89 for the following:

    - Sky Signature
    - Netflix Ultimate Add On (Premium 4K)
    - Sky Sports complete including Sky Sports+ (HD)
    - TNT Sports (HD)
    - Sky Cinema
    - Sky HD + Sky Ultra HD

(Don't have Sky Kids or Multiscreen)

Will be going up to £135 a month which I can not justify.
Cost for new customer signing up for same package above (excluding one off cost) is £110.50

Called and spoke with Sky on 22nd.
    Offer 1: Reduced to £123
    Offer 2: Reduced £112 - final offer
    Admin Fee £20

    Called again on 23rd:
    Offer 3: £103 - couldn't get anymore off
    Admin Fee £20

Shall I cancel and hope to receive a better offer post cancellation? or is the above a good deal at £103 p.m currently?

Cancel. Put in your 31 days notice. You can easily get a better deal than £103pm for that.
Your service continues as normal during the 31 days so it won't suddenly go off and the offers to stay will improve.
  • I currently have Sky Signature plus Netflix and multi room, paying £56 a month but going up to £59.50 in November. I have checked I can get all the sky channels I want from Now TV  for £9.99 (£6.99 for 6 months) and ad free Netflix for £10.99. I already have a Freesat recorder and with smart TVs you don't need multi room.  I have cancelled Sky and quite honestly unless they come back with an offer around the £21 I am definitely going.  I've been with them for 33 years and I'm sick of having to haggle with companies who don't care about loyalty.  I dumped their broadband at the beginning of the year as I was having so many problems they could not sort out and the new BB has been perfect.

I agree with you, we turned Sky off for a week and just used Freesat, we found the only thing we really missed was the familiarity of the Sky EPG.

We only have Sky Q with multi room and Sky Signature, if we had the football and cinema then perhaps our position would be different.

We now have a recordable Freesat box and we will use that when our Sky subscription ends at the end of the month.

The haggling is both a waste of time and a bore, how many additional people do Sky have to employ to do the haggling, why not just set a responsible price.

i will miss the history channels and the other documentary channels but I have other things that will soon soak up the time I spent watching those channels.

No one from Sky has contacted me during our notice period even though I expressed an interest in Sky stream and was told someone would call me.

    Thanks Easylinkselecta

Do offers come via e-mail, phonecall, post etc. following cancellation?
Reading the forum, it sounds like offers are subjective to who you speak to on the day.

Or shall I call up again and say 'i've cancelled, what deal can you give me?'
  • Thoughts?
    Sky Q with signature
    Sports
    Cinema
    Netflix Premium
    Multiscreen
    UltraHD
    Kids
    500mb Fibre

£120 per month for 24 months.
    Starting price was £163.

Should I hold out for better offers?

If you go back a couple of pages and look at the offer gaviebaby got for a similar TV package and you'll see that's not a great offer though it didn't include broadband
  • I've been offered Signature, Ultra HD, HD, Netflix Premium for £40 a month. Then broadband is £29 for 150MB. I can't even be put onto the broadband deal yet because of technical issues as the names have changed and it doesn't recognise I have a fibre to the door connection so I'm currently playing full price until they sort it but told them I want the admin fee knocking off.

I think TV is due to go off tomorrow, so will see what they offer again.
