One off ebay would work I guess but are there any pitfalls to it? Is Sky+ all it's cracked up to be? Our one still works just fine but the option to record would be a bonus. Can I still plug our old one back in if an HD one isn't for us?
If buying off ebay are there any ones I shouldn't buy or are they all the same?
Thanks
Take a look at Cash Converters or Cash Generator, or even some pawnbrokers. My local Cash Generator has Sky+HD boxes for £19.99. Or see if Sky themselves have any 2Tb boxes left for £49. I got one of them this time last year and it's far superior to other HD boxes."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Reading the 60% off offer with some interest as I think I'm out of contract.
Where exactly do you find this on the sky box? I've had a browse around the services menu but can't find it. Could just be me though!0 -

You have to cancel. Sky won't offer it out of the goodness of their hearts.
Out of interest, have you been paying full price? If so, you may find the offers are harder work for you to get, and you could have to actually be switched off before they arrive.0 -

Ok Thanks.
I've done retention deals in the past. Just can't remember when my last deal expired.
I'll go through the link and see what they say. Can I cancel on the stay with sky chat to access the retention offers?0 -

We replaced our old Pace box a good few years ago with a 500GB HD+ one from Amazon, the wife kept filling it up so I called Sky (2 or 3 years ago) and told them that it was failing and that we'd paid for it ourselves and hadn't had a box of them since our original subscription. They happily sold us a 2TB box for £49.95 (?) without any argument so I would definitely ask them first before trying ebay.
They're very, very good boxes by the way.0 -

Don't pay anything to anyone.
Just give Sky a call and say your box is not working properly (say something like it is not always recording your programmes). They will attempt to charge you for an engineer's visit and/or for the new box. If you are not in a 12-month contract, just say that you are not willing to pay anything and you want to cancel your subscription. You will probably find they that won't charge you anything.
If you are using Sky for freesat (i.e. do not pay Sky) then you can try freecycle for a free replacement box before trying ebay.
When Sky come to replace your box, you will probably find that the engineer will not even test your old box. He will probably just replace it with the new (probably a reconditioned) box.
I have done this trick with Sky 3 times over the last few years for a new replacement box; once for my dad. I have never paid anything to Sky for a new box.Colin_Maybe wrote: »We replaced our old Pace box a good few years ago with a 500GB HD+ one from Amazon, the wife kept filling it up so I called Sky (2 or 3 years ago) and told them that it was failing and that we'd paid for it ourselves and hadn't had a box of them since our original subscription. No need for this. Please refer to above.0 -

Given we were paying £28.75 it's a nice saving for us. Not as much as I probably could have got but it works. He wanted to give £16 for 10 months but I told him it would have to be 12 months. So he did. Made it sound like he was doing me a favour though!
I see that you renewed your contract yesterday.
You have a 14 day calling off period. So I suggest you give Sky a call to stop your renewal because you box is not working properly. As advised in my previous post, tell sky that you want to cancel your contract because of your box. Don't let them charge you anything for a new box as I advised before.0 -

It's not usual to offer a cooling off period on renewal rather than as a new customer, though some have had the offer.
There have been some really cheap HD+ boxes on Ebay, today; only a few pounds and just hours to end of auction. A great deal, if near you so no postage to pay.0 -

Good morning, I've managed to achieve £29.75 per month on a years contract, I was wondering if anybody has managed a better deal than this?
Thank you in advance.
