My 60% deal of £33.40/month just ran out and bills were going to rise to £83.50 for everything (sports/movies/boxsets/hd/kids) on an old HD box.

Found normal live chat a waste of time, so found this link.

    https://www.sky.com/help/articles/cancel-sky-tv

If you click 'yes for cancel' you can live chat direct to retentions.

background: VIP status with 19 years.

    Adviser came straight out with.....

Best deal I have for your loyalty is a new 18 month deal at £42 a month for 18 months. Offer comes with a one off admin fee at £20 which will be added on your next bill once you accept this offer. At £42 you are saving £41.50 a month £747 through the 18 months .

In discussions I then dropped movies which saved £6/month and brought it down to £36/month with a £20 one-off admin fee.

So boxsets, sports, kids, HD etc..... ie, everything (apart from movies) on an old HD box.

He basically said boxsets, kids and HD had all been discounted down to £1 each.

Not bothering with Q as see no value in the extra £12/month.

We barely watch movies, so happy to drop and be only paying a couple of quid more to stay with them...... I can't fault the whole telly/Sky Go package..... it works perfectly for us. I was never going to leave, I just wanted a cheap price.

Maybe could have instigated 30 day cancelling period like previous years, but from posts on here, doesn't seem to have quite the impact these days.

Hope this helps someone and provides some ball park figures to shoot for when negotiating.

For future reference and for others soon to chat to Sky the £12 "Sky Q Experience" monthly addition is not necessary to get a Sky Q box despite what some agents will try to tell you.

Can you tell/explain to me and other's why this is the case please.

Yes - but many people (myself included) feel that Q is not worth up/down grading to - in any case - since it does not allow the use of a cable connected magic eye second TV (In the bedroom) but charges an extra £12 for a wireless device to do exactly the same thing

I'm not sure what extra explanation is needed, it is not a requirement of a Sky Q box to pay an extra £12 a month.

For clarity, it's not exactly the same thing. You can watch what you want in HD, either live or via all of the recordings.
You also have access to Netflix / YouTube / Spotify on each box, and the GUI is very intuitive. It really is a good step forwards from the HD box.

Or if you want the ability to record more than 2 channels (but having to watch one of them!).

Most of the offers I've seen for Sky Q involve paying for the extra box for 18 months.

Is there an offer that doesn't involve the extra box?

How many times have you honestly needed to record more than 2 channels at the same time ?
Have you never heard of "catchup" facility ?
The extra cost doesn't justify Q
