The only difference between HD+ and Q in terms of monthly price is that they'll try and push the £12 a month "Q Experience" on you which is really optional (although they don't like to advertise the fact).

Also - you don't own the Q box - so must return it, if you leave Sky (can't use it for freeview)
And there's no second TV option via Magic Eye in HD

All together Q is a retrograde step for Sky

Finally decided to give in today re-contract with Sky. My 60% was expiring the end of this month and as we upgraded to Sky Q a few months ago couldn’t cancel. They offered my current package at

Entertainment Package £15 (changed from original package)
    Cinema £8
Complete Sports Package in HD £13
    Sky Q Multiscreen Pack £12

    Total -£48 per month

Was a bit more than I wanted to pay so dropped the cinema (which we don’t actually watch that much) and added HD for £1 - so £41 per month.

Was wanting to be paying around £40ish a month so reasonably happy with that. My next bill on 1st Feb was due to be £73.50

Was this via live chat or over the phone?

Did you have to go through the rigmarole of cancelling? Or just ring up retentions?

In same boat, so curious of your approach.

    Thanks.

It was through live chat. I wasn’t in a position to cancel as I’m a few months into a Sky Q account now. Been back and forth with them on chat since late December, it doesnt seem like then offers were going to get any better than they are at the moment

My 18 month ends next month, was £36.50 and will go up to £53.50 if I do nothing.

    I have:
    Regular unlimited BB
    Phone (no extras)
    Original bundle

They offered me £35.50 for a new 18 month contract which is actually £1 saving over the last 18 months, the original bundle will change to entertainment pack.

Got through on the phone in 10 minutes, I think it's OK so took it.

Bit annoyed about the £10 fee though as I was making the 31 day call to end my contract, it's not like I'm changing my package mid term. Anyone had any luck getting the £10 waived?

Twice but before the fact, not after agreeing to the deal.

Considering you were still in contract you've done well there.

You can't receive HD via Magic Eye.
Q decoders have dedicated miniboxes which not only provide serviceable HD, but also a full TV service allowing channels other than that being shown on the main box to be selected. The customer can also access OnDemand via the minibox, which was never possible with a Magic Eye.

Obviously Sky and a now large proportion of their customers with Q don't believe this is the case. The only people concerned about not owning the boxes will be those who want to cancel Sky. A Freesat decoder (with recording capability) is a far more viable alternative to using an old Sky box.

Odd that they agreed any new deal at all while you were still in the minimum term. It's not as if you could threaten to leave if they didn't cut you a deal.
