If just one April price hike over a 24m contract (in 2027) that's a better deal if you can get it, and one I would probably have settled for. I tried to haggle similar but no success this time.

Regardless of your contact preferences, you'll always (or at least should ;) ) get those emails since it involves a contract change.

Yes, I agree that those emails should come through (pretty quickly) regardless of any preferences, so that the fact that @Kim_13 hasn't had them would fit with their theory that the customer service person didn't actually action the requested cancellation.

Of course another explanation would be that VM have a wrong or outdated email address for them, and the emails are going down a black hole.
I found out after more than a decade (maybe two) that VM still had an old BT landline number on my account which I had lost in the 1990s when I switched from BT to VM (and VM didn't mention any option of keeping the BT number). It seemed strange that VM had an old number on my account, given that they were providing a new landline number to me.

Forgot to update, the Customer Service Agent indeed hadn't put the cancellation in as requested. Within a day or so the contact preferences were showing correctly, despite seeming not to accept the change when I tried to re-enable the option to be contacted. After a few days of no contact (no wonder, given no cancellation was on record) another bill was received which took the account past what should have been the termination date, some of it at the obscene out of contract rate since the discount would have expired by then. So that was a giveaway and then used the retentions number on this thread and explained that 150 had been called on X date to give notice but that the agent seemed not to have actioned the request given the bill and could they help. Retentions then said they could put the notice in but was there anything they could do. They offered the same package (250 BB + line with weekend calls) for £23 which was where we were before the price increase on the current contract, so accepted to avoid having to pay out of contract prices if no one called back with anything better.

The new customer offer on comparison sites was about £34 at the time if I recall correctly, so it looks as though they are trying to discourage line and it will be time to ditch it in 2 years time in order to get close to or under £20 for BB only. Dropping a service is 30 days notice though, so wasn't worth doing it now and paying through the nose.

I’m currently on Volt M500, Mega TV3 with Netflix with ads, Kids tv, Sky Spots HD, Sky Cinema HD, TNT Sports and Anytime Chatter for £68.88. It’s going up to £71 next month. I’m out of contract on 8th May and tried contacting VM through live chat for a better deal but what they offered was double my current price and said if I cancelled I’d need to pay a contract early termination fee as I’m over 2 months out.

Anyone have any advice on how best to approach this? Hang fire and contact them in a month or phone retentions now? Thanks

You can ask them to set your cancellation date for the end of the contract, it doesn't need to be exactly 30/31 days before it's due. They will try and claim they can't do that, but that's purely so they can try and pass what should be their cancellation stat onto someone else.

We were due to go from about £67 to about £170 (apparently) and I had no joy with the regular chat but that wasn't a surprise. So I phoned the number in the text message I had received about offers - 02037436951. Relatively quick call and agreed on 350MBps BB and Max TV with Sky Sports for £48 which is all I actually need. Did push for a little more but she said that was the best they could do. Got what I needed apart from Premier sports but I'll add that separately as I normally do until I see a deal on the Premier player sub for the year. That will take it back around the same price as before and no price rise this year

(Should add that we cant get BT based Fibre or from anyone else despite living in a big city so Virgin know they have a captive market for us)

    Previous - £67
MAX TV, Sky sports and Cinema (SD) - including premier sports
    350Mbps BB
    Phone line

    New - £48

    MAX TV, Sky sports HD

    350Mbps BB

  • I’ve cancelled my Virgin Media BB package over 10 days ago, contract ending, not had a call with any offers, which is unusual for VM, been a customer for 10 years, my settings are correct allowing them to contact me, anyone else experience this.

My only other option is RISE over VM for BB

Renewed my parents' internet 250Mbps for £23 per month for 24 months, with a £4 per month increase in April 2027. Not the best deal ever, but not the worst. That was just through using their web chat feature so was relatively hassle free for them, could have probably knocked a few quid off if they cancelled and went through retentions but they don't really have the appetite to do that. Looked around and it's roughly on par with new customer offers for that speed, albeit you could likely get some cashback as a new customer.
