I called up to cancel, currently paying £32/month for 350mb which was being put up to £63/month. They offered me £34/month which I declined and they cancelled my contract. Was expecting a haggle or to be transferred to a different department. Suppose I better go with someone else.
If you live in London, there are a countless number of choices of very cheap & fast internet. If you live out in the sticks somewhere, like me, usually the only choice is BT (or a variation on BT) and Virgin. This is what Virgin take advantage of.
I'm currently moving to 1gig Vodafone for £33 on 9th November whereas the lowest Virgin offered is £45. They've got about 1.5 weeks to decide if they want my money or not!

Have you left your marketing preferences/consent ticked in your VM account?
My experience has been that I've got a phone call with a better deal in the 24 - 48 hours after cancelling my account (i.e. well within the 30 days notice period).

Unfortunately for me I only have standard fibre up to 67mb available to me right now. I had it for 4 years with not issues, having 350mb was nice though. Open Reach have notified me saying they will be building out FTTP in my area soon so i'll wait for that and have 67mb and cheaper broadband in the meantime.

I never logged into my account, for some reason it never let me in, but I do get monthly bill emails. If they call me i'll listen to offers, thanks for the heads up.

Just had reminder from Virgin that my contract is ending on 8/11.

Currently have Biggest TV Bolt bundle, Volt M500 Fibre broadband, Maxit TV, Virgin TV V6 Box, Netflix standard, Sky Sports and Cinema Collection, Sky Sports HD pack. Currently paying £99pm. They want to put it up to £162.50 😱.

Just found this thread and can’t believe how much more than others we are paying.

Have spent ages on the phone to Virgin and the best they are willing to do is £124. Tried lots of combinations and even without the football they want £75. Don’t want to lose the football as husband enjoys it.

Said I am going to leave so was put through to retentions and went through it all again and got same price so said I want to leave and they said OK!!

Hoping I get a call with a better offer.
  • Call from Virgin retentions at 9.00am this morning. A very nice Scottish lady.

£162 renewal. £124 yesterday after 2 hrs on the phone. £81.62 today.

    Have renewed!!

I am in the same boat right now and finding that Virgin's offshore call centre are offering inferior deals to those offered by Virgin's UK-based call centres.
It's almost as though they want us to leave.

it seems you do have to go through the cancellation exercise to get the call from UK based retentions people, and a reasonable offer.
Frustrating for customers, but I suppose they've figured it makes business sense.

Has anyone ever just renewed their current contract on line.

I was under the impression my contract was up in January2024.
although one of my discounts was due to end this month (Oct)
I have had several emails from Virginmedia offering to renew my deal at £24 (currently paying £20 for 250MB Broadband).

anyway, I was looking over my account late last week, next thing I have an option to renew my current deal at £20.
Obviously I have done this and had the contract emailed through.

was expecting the usual battle on the phones, then the 30 day notice etc

The Virgin Media website let me re-contract at my current price £15 for the cheapest broadband (which with Volt gives me M125). This is still subject to the inflation-busting price increases in April 2024 and April 2025 so by the end of the contract it will probably be looking more attractive to switch away.

On the phone the overseas retentions were all over the place offering me £41 and £25 for the same!
