Been offered 1gig broadband & phone line by Virgin for £51 for 18 months (no O2 contract). Is this a good deal?
Do you really need a 1 gig service ?
Most of your computers won't be able to pull data that fast, and even if they could, you'd be limited by the server at the other end.
I have a 100Mb service, but most of my computers have a 1/10M network card installed. On my desktop (1gig interface), a speed test says I'm getting 46-52Mb/sec, but if I attempt a real file download, I'll be lucky to get 6-8Mb/sec.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Yep! I need it for my work - I consume market data which means a constant high bandwidth data stream during the day.

If it is critical to your work, you should be looking at business deals and the Service Level Agreement they give with business contracts. Domestic customers are bottom of the pile for getting service restored in the event of an outage. Of course VM are generally very reliable anyway.

That's a fantastic price. May I ask when you got it, whether it was a renewal and what you did to negotiate it?
I renewed mine on Thurs evening so still have a good few days for the cooling off period.
