Virgin Media retention deals (post your haggling successes)

barafear799 said:Question for the experts on this forum:
I'm currently midway through my contract - and over the last week or so have been using Whatsapp chat to retentions to try to "upgrade" in the hope of also getting a better deal at the same time (i.e. a new 18 month contract rather than just an upgrade for the remaining 9 months I have left).
Currently, I believe I am overpaying for what I have (when reading what others have got on here) - this is despite going through the cancellation process last time my contract was up - but maybe I'm not one of the lucky ones to get the really good deals or because I have been a long time customer, maybe Virgin know that I won't really leave.
So to sum up - I've got 500MB BB, Maxit TV and Sky Sports (SD), Landline with anytime call allowance - but no mobile sim.
Paying £84/mth for the above.
Having read about the o2 sim card volt upgrade deal, I felt I could get myself a £6 sim only deal (via anywhere else) and then I would get 1GB BB and double the data on the sim card (albeit I wouldn't really need it!).
So, basically, for £90/mth in total, I could get the volt benefit (of the increase in BB speed).
So I was hoping to renegotiate the whole package and given I felt like I was already overpaying to hopefully get a deal under £80.
However, I feel my bargaining position is not very strong given I am mod way through contract.
Best deal I could get was £88.75 for my current package plus 5gb sim card - and then the upgrade to 1gb.
However, I would need a new hub4 for which they wanted to charge me £35!
They did offer me the ultimate volt deal - which included cinema and kids (which I won't watch) - a second box (which I don't need) and a 250gb sim card (which would be about 249gb too much!) . Various different agents offered me this for £95/month. And virtually no budging (think I may have got it lowered to £92.75 with one agent).
New customer deals on that package seem to be £85 month with £200 bill credit and/or £197 TCB (compare) - I'd highly doubt that you'd get the £200 bill credit and £197 cashback!!
But even with just the one, it makes the new customer deal about £73 and the best I can do is about £93.
Would I have better luck in 8 months' time?0 -
Hi - not sure success or not..but
I have M100 BB, Mix TV & Talk More Anytime - was paying £53.50 in the past (down from £80+)
Wanted £77, have agreed £47 for the next 18 months
Moving can prove a problem due to fear of loosing the landline number, not something I can risk.

just recevied the following from the Indian retentions team;
Maxit TV
200MB Broadband
Talk landline (who uses this nowadays!)
100gb O2 Sim
£53
I did have the above with Sky Cinema and a 15gb Virgin sim for £47. I was OK with paying £53. Lost movies - dont tend to use that now due to streaming, but compensated with the huge additional data on the SIM which will come in handy when out and about.0 -

I was hoping to "renegotiate/upgrade/add a service" at this point in time - but it just doesn't feel that I am being offered the same level of discounts if I happened to be nearing the end of my contract.

Had 1 month left on my virgin media package. Call 150 to say I was leaving.
Previously on £32.99 for 100mb, telephone and Mixit TV Drama and Doc.
Cheapest they offered £32 for 100mb, telephone and Mixit TV (basic). Said I would like to leave. also got email saying sorry your leaving.
About 5 min later. I called 0203 743 6946 (I said I got a missed a called from this number, but I don't think I needed say that. They offered 100mb, telephone and Mixit TV again but this time for £24 for 18 months. Which i accepted0 -

Contract was up. Was paying £19 a Month for 100mb Broadband.Got offered £21 for 200mb Broadband straight away on first call. 18 Month Contract. Accepted as can’t see retentions doing much better (If they called)0

contract due to expire (mixit TV, 100MB and talk weekend). This was originally £29.99 but due to increase to £66. During the call to cancellations they offered the same package but 200MB at £33/month. Eventually, agreed £28/month after a £5 agent discount.
I didn't fancy the rigmarole of awaiting their call and having the dance that follows.0 -

Would I have better luck in 8 months' time?Peter Cardwell on TalkTV/TalkRadio yesterday was having quite rant about Virgin Media broadband. Something about VM never calling him back when he wanted to enquire about leaving when his simple broadband only deal doubled from £24 to £48. He got a phone-ins about a fairly shocking treatment with one elderly bereaved lady.Anyway Cardwell's point was about no call back. I wonder if he knew the trick about leaving your marketing preferences enabled for phone and email methods? Could be he's said no.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aM9uKTSQdUY&feature=youtu.be half an hour in
The last time I did the dance 2 years ago, it was the callback that broke the logjam when the 1st offer from Retentions did not cut it.My recent renegotiation was even simpler, I got put through to Retentions straight away after firmly asking to leave. Having no ties with a phone line, mobile or anything else, seems to make renegotiating a breeze.BTW I'd been away from MSE for a while and all the old bugs are still here- 2nd edit needed to remove all the white space, page does not refresh with edit button after posting.0
