Should I give my 30 days notice (in writing) from this week, to finish around 15th May, or should I wait until contract expired 26.04.22 + 30 days ? Hoping for the inevitable retention phone call, looking at Sky / BT pricing as we speak. TIA
If the deals aren't satisfactory, you can leave them to sweat, and get the retentions call.1 -
Had a bit of a roller coaster with VM for my parents' house, but I think we're finally in a good place!
> Deal finishing was £39 M100 broadband doubled to 200mbps speed with Oomph boost, 5GB mobile sim and TV with extra Asian channels included.
> Ouside fixed term, that was going up to £80 or something ridiculous.
> Found competitor deals in the region of £30-35 excl mobile sim, so called to negotiate / cancel. Their 'special offer just for me' was a couple of quid off, so proceeded to cancel and order Talktalk.
> Got a call back, offering the new customer deal ~£42 and no sim/extras, which I declined outright.
> Chats with the manager later, offered £31 for M100 broadband, TV, at which point I started looking at the extras..
> Asked for the extra channels which they added for £6 instead of £12, so total £37.. so not far off the TalkTalk deal, with more channels, slightly higher speed and keep the DVR box (mum doesn't want to lose the recorded programs!)
> Asked about mobile sim, which to my surprise they said they can throw in a 10GB sim O2. GREAT! The sim is worth ~£5 to me as I could pay that elsewhere, but even £32 for the broadband / tv / extra channels now beats the TalkTalk offer and with Volt I can probably double the broadband speed, but thought I'd deal with that later.
> They clearly explained the bill would be split £27 to Virgin and £10 to O2. DEAL DONE!
Then comes the downward bit of the rollercoaster..
> Next Virgin bill was £37, no mention of a sim and the tarriff page on my account thinks I've left Virgin. O2 also send me a sim card with a £12 bill out of no where..
> Cue many phonecalls to CS, where they insist they couldn't have offered £27 + £10 sim, and say I have 14 days to cancel. I try arguing that's my right to cancel, not their right, and I would rather stay on the deal I was offered. They finally agree to listen to the recordings when the deal was done.
> Takes them so long, I end up cancelling the O2 sim just about within their 14 days cancellation (as I don't think I can obligate them to honour a deal that Virgin offered, and without the cheap Virgin deal, the mobile sim is way more than I could get elsewhere).
> Virgin verbally agree I'm right in what I agreed to, and will apply a £10 account credit each month, but can't change the tarrif or put it in a confirmation email, which I say is not confidence inspiring since the last verbal agreement which wasn't followed through.
> Finally agree to apply the 18 months x £10 credit from now so I can be sure I'll get it!))
RESULT: (final peak of the roller coaster)
So finally have the contract I wanted (line rental, M100 broadband, TV + extra channels), for £27 and have gotten a sim only rolling contract for £5.. I'll switch that to a £10 O2 sim if Virgin need the commission, but for now haven't asked. For now its £32 all in!

Cancelled mine today. Ultimate oomph £89 a month for the past 18 months going up to £152.50
M350, Sports and Movies HD, 2 V6 boxes and a Tivo, Maxit TV
Offered M500, Basic TV and 2 boxes £87 a month.
No thank you
Will now wait for the phone call. If it does not come will reconsider and possibly go for a reduced package and cancel the cancellation. Should be an interesting ride.0 -

Out of interest, if they don't ring back again and services stop, do you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can go back as a new customer (pricing) ?0 -

Out of interest, if they don't ring back again and services stop, do you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can go back as a new customer (pricing) ?Be prepared to leave then. This is from a member of the forum team on the Virgin Media community:You'd need to give thirty days notice to cancel and then have no service at that property before being able to re-join as a new customer. This applies to an account in your partners name also.Other comments suggested a 3 month break is required.

A heads up warning for people taking out a new contract , Virgin now only seem to be offering O2 sims with their packages, we have placed a new order for a big tv & drama bundle with an O2 sim that doubles our broadband speed on offer. However when you place the order they ask you an install date for the equipment that’s not the same date for the O2 sim, that comes immediately and your billed they day it arrives, not even when you activate it.We were really shocked the 2 companies aren’t talking to each other. Virgin said you activate the same day as your equipment but that’s not the case. Also the O2 contract is separate to the Virgin contract, I’ve no idea if that means you can cancel that or change it. It’s not the best deal £12 for 10 GB but the Virgin deal is good, £57 for Volt 1GB broadband, max it TV & a 360 TV box. We have an older V6 box, I’m unsure about the new box but let’s see.I eventually got through to O2 who are going to give us a £12 credit for the first month. But it was painful, no one really listening to what the problem is. It’s already raised as an issue with Virgin contracts they told me.It does mean your cooling off period for Virgin is separate from O2 , hopefully our TopCashback tracks as we won’t be able to cancel.0
