I cancelled my Virgin media account, received call back three days later from retention offering same deal as new customer offers advertised on MSE. Now they are refusing to honour the credit which should have been applied and complaints department is constantly telling lies. I suggest anyone taking up any deal with virgin has them email the offer so you have written evidence as mis-selling is rife within retention and UK based Customer Service sucks.

Has anyone ever had any luck with upgrading just their upload speed? I use VM, I'm on their VM100 Broadband Only, which costs me 17.75 a month. I don't really need the download speeds that much (the ~60mb speed was enough for me on BT before). However, the upload is really bad with Virgin, offering only about 10mb (whereas BT went up to 20 almost).

I like the pricing of Virgin, but I would still like to haggle regarding upload speed. I'd even be willing to let them lower my download speed, in exchanged for more upload, but don't know whether they would do that, when they can simply offer me the VM200 package (or higher) in exchange for a higher monthly fee. So if anyone's ever done something like that, let me know!

Sorry, they're not gonna let you do that. Their price plans for the different speeds are set in stone. There is no way as a residential consumer you can tinker with the upload and download speeds for your package.

Maxit Tv, 200mb, Sky Sports Hd, weekend calls £65 offered, was going up to £115.  Was genuine intention to move to Sky, but no need now as this slightly cheaper with far better broadband. Took a week for retentions call. Came in nick of time as was going to order Sky at weekend.

Is maxit tv the same as full house and includes BT sport? If so then I am on same package as you (apart from sd sky sports not hd), currently £58pm due to rise to over £100 so will be calling to cancel next week. Think on my recent email they sent me it said new customer offer price for my package was around £65.

  • Just reached the time for another annual dance with Virgin. Last year I had to go through cancelling the account before then getting the phone call from the retentions team with a decent deal.

I'm honestly happy with the current price I'm paying, it's just for fibre broadband and nothing else. Has anyone had any success with saying to them "Look, I could threaten to leave and look elsewhere, but just keep it the same price I was on and I'll be happy to sign for another year" and does that work? Or do you really have to go through the charade of leaving on an annual basis?
  • Tried again, offered 200mb BB, Maxit TV, 2 boxes and 15gb SIM for £69 - tenner off if I give up the older Tivo box. Mentioned I'd take the Ooomph full if the same price as new customers but nothing doing. They'll call tomorrow to confirm whether I go ahead (odd, since that was definitely "on the call only" offer....) or cancel as requested.

Currently on the following at £50/month - due to expire at the end of November (Going up to £83/month).

    Bigger Bundle (MaxIt TV)
+ Free Extra Kids TV (But going to remove this as don't need after Nov)

What have others been offered on a similar package?

It’s worth asking.  As most of them are working at home, some ex outbound retentions are on the phone straight away once you call and can offer reasonable deals.  Friend had 100mb bb and weekend calls for £34 going up to £51, immediately Got offered £32, by putting in cancellation, only got it down to £30 but didn’t get the call back.  I am sure that price should be in the twenties, but there you go
