£89 pm is just silly money. I am better off leaving them and then returning at a later date.

Eta: I did and got yet another call from the retentions team, offering me nothing better. At the end of the call it was clear that the new provider had contacted them because they knew exactly which it was and the day the engineer was booked to install. So just be aware that they will know if you are bluffing. If you get to step 14 just bite the bullet and do it.

  • Just called VM about the renewal of my service, my current deal i was paying £72 (next bill was £97 and when all discount end £126). The lady on the phone offered me to stay on the same package for £91 despite new customers getting the same deal for £65 a month for 18 months, apparently new customers cannot negotiate discount after the term of the 18 mth contract and have to pay full price LOL. She also mentioned that there is no VM outbound team (They must have all gone on holiday lol)
  • I Renewed my contract this week, was paying £108.99 going up to £142 when discount ended this month, this was for Oomph M500, SIM card,  all tv & sports, talk anytime & extra box.
Reduced my package to M200, Maxit tv & talk weekends.
Initially offered @ £88. I requested to be put through to disconnections reduced to £79 ( bigger bundle + M200 instead of M100). “£65 for new customers “The final operator in retentions was reasonable, it took me about 45 mins total  on the phone. I am reasonably happy as I have reduced my outgoings by £30/month.
    A few thoughts,
The system is deliberately confusing even though I knew which package I wanted.
it is run like a sales operation rather than customer services.
Broadband speeds are nowhere near  as advertised when tested.
Good luck and ask to be put through to disconnections

Was this all through the same operator or from retentions? I was offered £91 per mth for the £65 a mth for new customers.

  • Hi , I asked to be put through to “disconnections” as I wasn’t happy with the price. I didn’t use the term retentions. It’s a real minefield !? You are left feeling that you could have pushed harder for a beater deal rather than it being transparent.

Got offered a reduction from £85 to £63 for this:
Full House TV, M100 Broadband, Talk weekends and second "old" Tivo box. Not convinced I got the lowest offer, unless anyone thinks otherwise? Will probably ring and cancel tomorrow and see what happens next.

They did offer full size "Oomph" package including SIM, all channels inc films and sports, and two boxes for £99, but wouldn't match the £79 deal for new customers.

A reminder that you rarely get a decent deal from Virgin unless you put in your cancellation. You cannot call retentions - the inbound team (those you call when selecting Thinking of Leaving) can process your cancellation and can offer some discounts, but you need to give 30 days notice. Then await a call from the outbound customer retentions team as they can offer the best discounts. This is how the system is set up.

Search on other forums for examples of what others have achieved from retentions recently - see for example, https://www.avforums.com/threads/virgin-media-retentions-discussion-part-3.1500883/page-63.

And even then it is far from guaranteed hence I'm switching in a few days time. I would have preferred to stay with VM but they just weren't offering me the lowest price option so the choice was made.

I cannot get how some on this board can spend so much on a package? £100+ a month is a great deal of money for a home entertainment package.
