Great news
The vets rang this evening Dave can come home tomorrow night :j:j
He has been using his paw with the big heavy plaster.
Well I've seen the rest of what they have shaved, ohhh that's gonna itch.
We have all missed him so much, even the other cats eventually realised he wasn't around which meant they were nice to each other.
He will be mollycoddled for a long time, Also Grounded.
He may have issues in the future, he has a deformed chest which we knew about being a runt of the litter, but the surgery showed he has a deformed bum, so the pins are quite close to the spinal cord which affects toilet. Hopefully once he gets a bit of meat on him and he grows into an adult cat this will help (i think)
We will cross that bridge when we get there, he's proved he wants to live, he's a little fighter.0 -
Aw Mupette I am thrilled for you!
Give him a very gentle squish from me.0 -
So pleased Dave is doing well and can come homeThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0

Yes Vet rang this morning.
5pm we can pick him up and bring him home.
The feliway is on, the crate is ready, our other 2 cats are just moping around, such a relief that he can come back. I could cry, ok i did.
we will keep his youtube video up and add pictures etc, people have said so many kind things.
And the amount who have had to do this themselves and their cats have survived to live to tell the tale has amazed me.0 -
Little Dave is home.
Very vocal poor think, had a cuddle on the bed, and laid him on a towel where he started to clean himself and wanted to wander so back to the crate, where he's been head in litter tray (unsed) fast asleep.
Don't panic we do check regular for breathing he is fine.
nerve racking it's like looking after a newborn again.0 -
Well Dave has been home a few days now and yesterday I was really worried that he had not toileted.
But we seem to have a routine now, he's figured out that he still needs help and allowed hubby to hold him up whilst he used litter tray.
Went into his room this morning and he'd managed to do both in crate, what a mess! but I don't care, little Dave has managed toilet I don't care how messy and stinky it will be. It just means everything is still working as far as i am concerned. To me that's the important thing, messes can be cleaned up. And once he was cleaned loud meows as he wanted the litter tray again, bless holding him whilst he widdles.
He probably hates that he needs help there but understands maybe (would like to think) that we can help him.
Fortunately medication is easy to give, especially the tablet, he is so greedy in his eating we can smear cat food over the tablet and hold in in the palm of our hands and its gone.
One over his food he doesn't notice, and one in the side of the mouth which he just opens up and takes it.
I'll be honest I was scared about looking after him, his back legs have no strength and he can't really stand at all, all bar a few seconds, but we do try every few hours holding him and get him to stand and support him.
This morning was a good morning, got him all cleaned up, medicated, and fed, and now he's happier with that. Give him a few hours rest and quiet.
This will be a long journey, but he is a fighter, and we will help him fight.
Hopefully along the way my MS Relapse will do one too - But Dave is priority at the moment.0 -

I'm so glad he's doing well and I hope you feel better soon. He looks like such a cutie. Great news that all the bits are in working order:j. It's such a worry while you're waiting, I agree it is a bit like having a newborn all over again.
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

How's dave today?

Dave really surprised us yesterday morning.
We went in to do the breakfast / drugs and clean up any over night messes and general cuddles etc.
Sorted him out and put him back in the crate.. he then stood up must of been about 10 seconds and then sat down on his hind legs :j:j
He did that a few times.
He enjoys being laid on our bed with me sat next to him (its our living room/bedroom atm - don't ask) so whilst I was resting with the MS and catching up with new season of Orange is the new Black. Dave was watching too.
He really goes for the cleaning, the only thing he's not able to do yet is lift his back leg up, but he does love to have a good clean (glad he kept that up)
We did try several times during the day to help support him on his littertray, but not much luck, although at one point he did crawl over to it and just led there and had a wee - better than not doing it and holding in.
So he is adapting to alternative toilet positions.
He knows he's lost his dignity for a bit, But we give him lots of praise and fuss.
Oh just remembered we did get Dave on the litter tray after he led in it as he was still uncomfortable and hubby and i agreed he probably needed to poop, oh yes he did, hubby holding him, me at the toxic end with nappy bag ready to grab before he tried to bury it and get it everywhere.
Bish bash bosh all sorted, put Dave back in crate and i disposed and sorted a clean litter tray - husband says "I got kitten poo on my jeans" - "Welcome to parenthood" i said with a smile, (he never had kids and i had one with a previous partner)
This morning the whole floor stank, I knew i had a messy one before going into the room - toilet during the night both.
Cheap puppy pads a great invention.
Scooped Dave and his fleece onto my lap and cleaned around, he gets the fuss and gentle cuddles, i get the toxic aftermath.
Still its showing that his bladder and bowels are not affected by the accident and that's the important thing.
Oh and Dave also did his eyes closing I love you mum I won't hurt you, and i did the same back. There is going to be a very special bond with this one with me, I love all my cats but I think Dave will be my shadow.0
