My cat had a fractured pelvis last year. Her bladder worked after a couple of days but it took days and days for her bowels to move. She spent eight weeks in the crate IIRC. She's fine now, but there is a teeny little bit of residual weakness in her back legs.

Wishing your little guy all the best.

I got a large crate (one big enough for a large dog). As my little cat recovered, one of the other cats would snuggle up inside with her for company, which helped.

We also left the crate in situ long after she had recovered because all the cats loved it :D.

Fortunately i have a friend who was recently selling her dog crates small, large and extra large. I've asked for the large as she used that when caravan and training her JRT pup (both about same size) she had litter tray and bed in there so knew the set up i needed, think the extra large will be too big as you need to restrict movement don't you?

we will have him in the spare room or our room,
the other cats can see him, not sure about having cage door open for Georgie (girl cat, slight mothering) to go in as he will want to get out, concerns are when we got him we put him in a small crate (was for my JRT as a pup) so ample room as a tiny kitten, he was climbing the crate.

So as much advice on the crate is really welcomed right now

The fact he will create to get out will be a good thing muppette.

Make sure you can keep the food well away from his tray and you will be fine.
I would play it by ear with the other cats see how it is when he's home.

    Keep strong
    Thinking of you.

Thinking of you here too and hoping for a positive update!
He's in a great place, my son trained there and the standard of care and equipment they have is top notch.

    sorry its been late comming.

Vet called this morning, Dave peed :j:j:j they did massage his bladder a little but he peed which is fantastic news. he had a settled night and has stolen every ones hearts, and vet said he was slowly coming out of the woods.

She called again this afternoon to say they did the ct scan and it showed the wing at the top of the pelvis was fracture and will be pinned on Monday, which will push it back into place and stop squashing his bladder, the other fractures are at the bottom of his pelvis and will heal by themseves and are not load baring so that is good news, she said he has sensations around his bum and he has with protests moved his legs to he has feelings back. phew. been very emotional rollercoaster, will be glad when i get him home, really poorly with the MS today and the although i have my steroids now so hopefully that will help. such relief my lil fella is comfortable and will get better

yes i am, i cried when she said he had a pee, i did, i'm so soft when it comes to my furbabies, Gizmo and Georgie and Perry has noticed how quiet it is, I keep telling them that Dave is on a special holiday and will be back soon...

I have a towel i use for the pets, so over the next few days will try and get all our smells on it so when we bring him home i can cover him in it to hopefully disguise the hospital smells so the cats dont get funny with him and reject him.

Dave update, two steps forward one step back. Vet has called Dave has managed to sit up and they noticed his front paw was bent weirdly, he's dislocated his paw which will need surgery to have a plate put in, initially they thought it was because of the iv but it became apparent when he sat up, so this will be done tomorrow when his pelvis is pinned, poor !!!!!! :(
