David - the account says this

    Activation date

    Friday 17 June
Your Sky phone line will be up and running before midnight. You don't need to be at home.

    What is activation?

Line activation is when we activate your line so you are able to receive both your broadband and phone calls.
What do I need to do?

Please ensure the accessories and colour-coded cabling supplied with the Sky hub are used; using alternatives may hinder or impair the broadband service.

Nothing about an engineer visit, so does this mean that they don't need to send one out and that all that needs to be done is for her (or a friend) to set up the 'hub' for her?

    Thanks

Yep as I suspected, only properties with a new line need an engineer

mine did his magic at the exchange, then the green box then my home

What amazes me is that they do not do all this on VPN's

It will be just a plug and play solution, I plugged mine all in a week earlier in case it helped them but my place had never had a telephone line so it needed engineer
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

    Excellent. Thanks

That makes it so much easier that no-one needs to come out.

"Sky Talk 1571 Voicemail is subject to a monthly charge of £1.25 per month." I wonder if that's included in the deal or if it's extra and if you have to set it up.

Hopefully it details everything with her paperwork.

You get nothing included, I would avoid using the phone altogether, you can get an android phone online for £30 from ASDA if she does not have a smartphone, you install WhatsApp on the phone and hook it up to the Wifi. She can now make free calls to her friends who also have whatsapp.

Do not get sucked into using the phone, I would not even connect a phone to it.

I must apologise to anyone who requested a code for this offer and didn't get one. I did get one and won't be using it.

The reason? Well apparently I'm not in the Sky network area so the 'Unlimited Broadband' is not available to me. They offered me 'Broadband Connect' instead, at £17 a month (instead of being free). I'd have thought they'd at least offer a discount.

Even then, I was tempted to go for it, but then discovered I can't transfer my existing number to Sky. Its really just not worth the hassle for the savings available.

I'm not being a moaning minnie, just thought it might be useful for MSE to warn people that they may not be able to get the offer, so codes aren't grabbed by people like me who go on to find they can't use them.

I also got the message that it is not available in my area when trying to sign up.

It feels like a con to me. I am currently with TalkTalk who have no problem with me using broadband.

I had the same issue with Sky unable to provide me with a service. It seems that the offer only applies if you are on one of the unbundled exchanges that they happen to have equipment on.

In rural areas, these appear to be few and far between.

Ahhh, I see. Thanks. Looks like I am going back, cap in hand to TalkTalk after calling them to cancel my contract and telling them about this great Sky deal that I thought I had.

I have just used the link to get this deal, but when I copy and paste the message 'Sorry, the unique reference number you've entered has already been used.'.
    Has anyone else had this?
Does anyone know how to get through this problem?
    Many thanks in advance

Just called Sky, told them the problem with the code being accepted. They said there is nothing they can do, the best deal they could offer me was free broadband and £17.40 line rental.
    Not happy :-(
