    Ah clearer now

Sky use debit/credit card to verify ID, if you use a card you have never used with them it may be OK or it may not, only way to find out it to try.

You go to the site and register as her, you give your card details and see what happens, it will take a £5 or £25 charge depending on whether there is a BT line in her property.

Then it will have a direct debit screeen, that is the key one although with a £50 credit and half price line rental you do not need to make a payment for 5 months.

It may trigger a call back in which case you could offer to pay the initial £25 plus the £61 and call it a gift.

Personally I would strongly advise against doing this as you have a contract that you are responsible for, if you fall out later it may spoil your friendship. In 12 months the price will revert, so you need to cancel the service at that time, no matter what.

If you must continue get your friend a debit card meanwhile so by the end of the contract they can take it over.

    Ok, on the page now.

Opportunity for me to put my details in as it asks if - yes, i'm the cardholder or no, i'm not the cardholder. I've never used this debit card with them.

It's asking for £25 - this is fine as I accounted for that being the case.

She has given me her bank details so she can pay the £8.70 p/m and yes, free for 5 months is good :D

Me paying is for the initial £25 and i'll drop her a tenner every month to help pay the costs. I could get her debit card details but may be too much hassle.

As I said I think you may instigate a call back as Sky use the Debit card to verify ID, send her £25 by Faster payments on internet banking and she will have it almost immediately.

Then use her debit card registered to her address, that is so much simpler, trust me.

You can pay money into her Sky account in 5 months time or just pay £61 pounds and you do not have to think about it, that way her whole year is paid up, but set an alert for 10 time to prepare to switch, then either call too negotiate or switch, such is the way of the broadband market.

Regarding SkyID, delete all cookies and follow sky link again, you must have clicked on existing customer at some point.
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

    Trying to contact her now.

Don't want to put payments into her bank as she is on benefits and don't want DWP to incorrectly think she has another source of income (although it's a one off).

Will definitely think about changing for her in 10/12 months to get the best deal.

I'm at the screen regarding line activation date and it's offering Friday 17th. That's just line activation and not BB installation I guess - i'll maybe find out on next page.

Will they bring all they need with them or does router get sent out separately? (hence delivery charge I suppose) and I am assuming all leads for the router to connect to phone line and PC + ADSL filter etc will come with the router - it's been so long since I had a new router etc :o Don't want engineer arriving before router!

Sky are super efficient about the logistics, the router arrives about a week before the install, if your friend is not tech savvy the BT Wholesale engineer will do it. Not exactly rocket science, a mains lead and telephone wire plus the filter, if she has any telephone extensions there is a spare filter.

On the back of the sky paperwork and bills are the ways to pay directly to her Sky account from any bank or via home banking. With my bank I just set up a recurring payment for 7 months starting in 5 months time.

Much as they would like to the DWP do not get to say where you spend your money, if you decide to not watch live TV you save yourself £12.44 a month and could spend that on Internet, a place where you can educate and improve yourself as well as create your own netflix like service with Plex.tv.

Now she has to have a direct debit but it never has to be used because it always goes to account credit first, keep that topped up or just make the one off £61 payment and you are done.

The DWP are only interested in people who have an income from other sources, a friend helping you get by does not fall into that category but I know why you are made to think that way.

Thanks for your help David - the friend I am trying to help has mental health issues so trying to get a date where she is free out of her is quite painful at the moment.

If I close the window, and I may have too as I don't think I will get answer out of her tonight, my code should still be valid if I try again tomorrow?

As I say, all help appreciated and i'm going to need personal help soon as i'm banging my head against the brick wall with her over this :D I just need a date! :o

So if I stick £25 in her account via bank transfer, DWP won't care? I've always worried that this will be flagged and she would get in trouble (i'm not on benefits myself).

Still waiting for a date and have been for nearly 4 hours....oh I dunno, hmmmmm, in Thurs after 11 (too soon!)

Anybody who has taken up the offer - after i've sent payment details, does it give you a second choice of dates for install as the 17th is line activation only.

Might call Sky - but they can't do anything as friend has given me no date!

I understand where you are coming from, sometimes giving her an open ended "when are you free" is too much" so you start with an alternative, "generally are Tueday afternoons or Thursday Mornings better for you".

If she can't cope with that then find the people that support her and work with them.

Nothing is set in stone, you can set a date for next week or next month and still re-arrange them by calling Sky.

If she finds it all too stressful let it go. If you can find a way where she does not have to do anything then so much the better, i.e. someone else is at her home.

Code is valid till 16th I believe

DWP do not have access to your account, they can ask to see a statement if there is a suspected fraud in which case you repaid a cash loan she gave you in pub once so you could get a decent round in.

It is very kind what you are doing, just find a way to help her, it may be that the line can just need to be activated and you go around and plug the router in. They called mine installation because there had never been a line here before.

You can call Sky and ask them what the difference is and whether that is all it needs.

Sky say they can't help on the phone as i'm not the account holder despite me paying the fee - it's fair enough, I messed up myself.

I have to go into track my order in the mysky bit of sky.com but it's not finding anything yet, I guess it takes time. Then I can change the date. As it is, it's set for Friday and she's not in.

I can find out more then I guess.

It's also saying you can get free sky go with this deal.

For real or am I missing the small print?

It might be a free "trial" to Sky go, I do not know

If I had called in your posision I would have said "I have just signed up for my girlfriend" and made it more personal so they would talk to you (I assume you have all the data you used to sign up.

Either way you have time, it may create the account overnight today or tomorrow.

I just said friend and they said they couldn't help despite me having the account details and being signed into the Sky ID.

Hopefully it sorts itself out and I can sort it out tomorrow as she's not in Friday and I don't want more charges!
