Add your feedback on energy supplier Iresa

It should remove all doubt from the process except for the fact that the data collectors do not have full access to the data - the losing supplier has it. When SMETS2 meters are deployed, the problem goes away. The limit on gas before a readings dispute can be initiated is a discrepancy of 125 c3Ms.
It's kind of crucial that they have access to all the available data don't you think? It makes their reason for actually existing nonsensical.
Who are the idiots who set up and agreed this crazy system for third party meter reading approval?
From my point of view it's the principal that matters not the money.
In effect they're accusing me of lying about the reading I provided. In this case the reading has been adjusted by a whopping 3 kWh which is pennies and actually works out in my favour but it's the principal of the whole thing.
I honestly can't believe they've interfered and adjusted it by such a tiny miniscule amount.

The verification process is necessary because people do lie about their meter readings on switch (particularly when energy prices are increasing) because they can see some financial advantage in doing so. Last week, we had a poster on this very forum asking for advice about providing false readings.
The verification system has been in place for decades. The Data Collectors maintain a register of properties and their annual consumption adjusted for weather. The Estimated Annual Consumption (EAC) for electricity is updated each time an actual meter reading is taken and the Annual Quantity (AQ) for gas is updated annually. The new supplier is provided with the EAC and AQ on switch so that it can make a judgement about the future estimated consumption. This data is also used across the Industry to balance energy provision with demand.
Will the system continue in the post Smart Meter era - who knows? Possibly, because not all properties will be suitable for smart metering and, whilst smart meters may become compulsory on meter replacement the current Govt policy is that consumers will be allowed to have the smart functions disabled if they so wish. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. What's happens if you don't receive any meter read from the gaining supplier?
Rightly or wrongly I had assumed that EON have used an estimated reading to close my account as Iresa would not be in a position to estimate it or even have a wild guess at it - so where has this estimated reading come from?
Needless to say I have raised a complaint insisting that Iresa correct what I believe to be their error.
Morning youravinalarrrf.
With switches, where we haven't received readings from the supplier taking over, final bills are automatically estimated 30 days after the supply end date. Estimates are based on previous usage.
Once we receive verified readings from the third party, we'll rebill to these. The same readings will also be sent to the new supplier who'll use them to start their account. It's important both the old and new supplier end/start their accounts to the same readings. This makes sure the same energy is only charged once.
As we've issued your final bill, I suspect we've received readings from Iresa via the third party.
Readings can be challenged through an industry wide procedure known as an Agreed Reads Dispute (ARD). As Hengus says, the difference must be above set thresholds. These are 250 units for electricity and 45/125 units for a 4 dial imperial/5 dial metric gas meter.
Changes won't be made where differences are below these thresholds. In these cases, whilst one supplier will charge more units, the other will charge less. The important thing is the opening/closing reads match so the same energy isn't charged twice.
Hope this explains youravinalarrrf.

Its the faceless third party who verify numbers by taking what you gave to the new supplier and looking at past usage and might adjust it if they think you've rounded numbers in your favour. Which is a bit insulting of course, but there are probably plenty of people who do lie. I think you can appeal if you disagree with their estimate, but since the difference is probably only pence (I think I was up about 10p when they increased my -honest- gas read by 25m³) its not likely to be worth the time and effort.
Neither E.ON or Iresa choose the figures, they just have to make sure they use the same number for closing and opening respectively.
Spot on Raxiel. It's important both suppliers use the same readings to start/close accounts so duplicated charges are avoided. As above, provided differences are above set thresholds, customers can appeal to have readings changed.

Update to my last post on my switch from Eon to Iresa.
Everything going smoothly so far.
My electric will switch over on 5th March. Nothing for gas yet but I understand this may take a bit longer.
Meter readings not requested yet.0 -
I would be interested to know when the February bills start hitting e-mail boxes next month whether Iresa has used the correct truncated average daily calorific value for your region when converting gas volume to kWhs.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Everything seems to be going OK with my switch from E-on to Iresa. Electricity switches tomorrow (28th Feb) and my gas switches 2nd March0

I'm switching leccy only to Iresa from EON.
So far,so good - the online account is showing the correct electricity supply no. and meter no. as well as the first DD credit - supply is switching on 3rd and they have asked for meter reading for that date.:)0 -
4 weeks in and still no meter set up. Phoned to give a meter read but 35th in queue so gave up.0
