Yes, they involve different industry partners.
The design of the industry transfer schemes was dominated by the Big 6, as they had the resources to frustrate the delivery of slick integrated systems - "its all too difficult" they said.
Its a complete nonsense that elec and gas are transferred on different timetables after 20 years of competition in domestic energy and that the process takes so long.
Govt and Ofgem would have been better occupied dealing with this aspect of competition first rather than rushing into Smart metering before satisfactory smart meters (SMETS 2) were available.
And, like the original poster, my transfer away from Iresa is only half way there - the gas transfer is stuck somewhere in the ether.0 -

I don’t disagree, but the question was about the validation of energy readings post transfer. Gas involves transporters some of whom are independent. My understanding is that the verified reading is used as the basis for payment between wholesalers; transporters; suppliers, and customers. Provided the supplier raises a Final Bill within 6 weeks of the transfer date, then they have complied with the Conditions of their Licence. That said, I think that 6 weeks is far too long for any bill but the EU knows best! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I am in the same position, electricity final reading confirmed but not gas.poppellerant wrote: »I received an email this morning from Iresa telling me that they have now received my final readings for my electricity. Do gas readings follow through a little later?
I asked Iresa not to take the February direct debit as my switch happened earlier that month and I was in credit for both electricity and gas but they took the DD anyway!0 -
Same position too (with Gas)BUT you should know by now that asking Iresa to do something is like talking to a brick wall. So my question. Does cancelling the Direct Debit (assuming in good credit already) prevent Iresa from paying back any credit? I'm guessing the answer is it shouldn't but with Iresa it'll just add months to the process.I am in the same position, electricity final reading confirmed but not gas.

thrown by that last year too. They MSE advice always shop around and not sure if they were saying then to check forum but last year didn't feel the comments weren't too bad? But when switched and the communication failed and read forum the same experiences just could not afford to get involved and switched again.Still use MSE as the go to but defo not as much the no1 go to, anymore.Try to help and glad for help from strangers online in forums. I managed to get through to Iresa. I had to wait very patiently and spent a total of 2 hours and 25 minutes on the phone - about 5 of those minutes was actually spent speaking to somebody who had to go to their supervisor several times.
Anyway, the meter readings Iresa claim to have received match the same readings I gave to my new provider. I'm not sure how I feel about this, as I expected a figure to be in between the final reading I gave Iresa and the reading from my new provider. For example, if I gave Iresa a reading of 0 and my new provider a reading of 10, I would have expected them to say the final reading being used on my bill is going to be 5.
Apparently the gas reading they received had failed validation. And this is why I only got an email claiming they had only received my electricity readings. They are going to bypass the validation, so I don't expect I will get an email telling me they have received my gas meter readings from my new provider.
Finally the bill might be generated in the beginning of April and I will receive my refund a few weeks later. So I imagine Iresa produce final bills at the end of the month.0 -

If you are sure you are actually in credit, and have actually switched both supplies, you can ask your bank to take back the February payment, as you are no longer being supplied by Iresa.0 -
Surely that's how it's meant to work?poppellerant wrote: »Anyway, the meter readings Iresa claim to have received match the same readings I gave to my new provider.
AFAIK the validations for Elec and Gas go through vastly different processes, so I wouldn't expect the Iresa emails confirming readings to come at the same time. Question - did Iresa say why the validation failed? (has been an issue since December).poppellerant wrote: »Apparently the gas reading they received had failed validation. PS. Anything that Iresa says in terms of timings of credits can be ignored.0
