Well I am very happy and relieved to say that as of this morning Iresa are not the provider of either my gas or electricity. :j:j:j
Now I just need to wait for Iresa to receive my closing readings from my new provider. I expect this could be fun when they attempt to produce a bill. :rotfl:
The advisor I spoke with said they couldn't advise me to cancel my direct debit - I suspect there may be some sort of company policy in place that they were following which says not to advise customers to cancel direct debits. They did say it would normally prevent the transfer of supplies to my provider, but added that I have already switched.
Having a month's direct debit taken and waiting for it to be refunded to me does not sound appealing to me. But they advised that the request has already been made and they couldn't cancel or alter it. This bewildered me slightly as it's almost two weeks until my direct debit is due and I've not even had the email to confirm it. I suspect some blagging was in play here and that the advisor in question simply wasn't willing to cancel that payment. Perhaps another company policy?
I will leave my direct debit open, purely to speed up my refund. If and when that happens! :rotfl:0 -

Hope they don't add £3.5k to to account like they did after my switch away was completed.0 -
So, these cowboys are now finally getting investigated by Ofgem..

Now at £3,497.63 - that's four years worth of gas and electric.
Keeping full records of this in case they try to collect (DD cancelled). Of course they haven't replied to any messages and life is too short to spend time on the phone.
Now showing that I owe £3,865.80. I actually owe zero. Seems to fo up every hour.0 -
I think IRESA has got to wake up to the fact that they have got a crap accounting system, IMHO. I wrote to them 6 months ago explaining that if they continued to split the amount of my Direct Debit 50-50 between gas and electricity then we were going to have problems.
Needless to say they ignored that email, and sure enough the gas account ended up in arrears and I ended up with threat to grab it back in one big hit, and to hike the DD quite substantially. So DD is now cancelled and I am in the process of switching once I can clear the debt.
Perhaps the most hilarious thing is that IRESA believe that their systems are brilliant, when patently they are not. Have you noticed that their emails end up with the strap line "Generating value with seamless technology" ? "Creating mayhem with crap technology" would be more appropriate, IMHO.
My guess is that they will not survive this second investigation by the regulator (just too many things that they are doing wrong according to the latest reports) so expect more trouble to come.0 -

I fear that it will be a 'whitewash'. Ofgem is already under fire for its Licence approvals' process and monitoring, so its reputation as a Regulator is on the line. Moreover, a fine which results in Company insolvency would just increase the cost of energy for everybody. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. They have ignored my last two meter readings and put in their own which suits me just fine as they are underestimating my consumption by around 75% at this time of the year and I'd normally expect be around £150 in arrears.
By the time they get it sorted we should be back on an even keel againNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Looks like this news is spreading fairly quickly:

It sounds like Iresa intends to use the Ofgem investigation for some on-job staff training:
A spokesperson from the energy company said: !!!8220;Iresa is currently looking at different issues raised by Ofgem. We continue to address these issues with aim of improving our customers experience.!!!8221;This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
