Having installed Windows 10 for a couple of people (their preference) I think it is the best windows system yet. Its like an improved version of Windows 7.

I usually avoid Windows myself if I can help it and stick to Linux Mint 17.3 cinnamon edition. For PCs and laptops Linux is a better system, easier to use and safer.

I suffered the enforced 'upgrade' last week - with eight minutes notice and when I was on a tight deadline with work. Bedding it in cost me several wasted hours and the SD card reader on my Dell Latitude still doesn't work, with no prospect of a fix in the short term, according to any support I can find from Dell or via various geek forums.

It's funny, for some quaint reason, I'd always assumed paying for it made the laptop mine. It seems I was wrong and it's actually owned by Microsoft.

when you first bought and turned on the laptop , you had to tick that you accepted their terms and conditions , one of those was that you accepted updates

When W10 was 'enforced' on one of my PCs I was asked to tick the box that I agree to some T&C. I refused, and it rolled back to the original W7.

I'm not going to get into pointless circular arguments with Microsft fanbois but what if it had demanded the blood of my first born? Would that have been OK, too? And why do software makers demand rights which car manufacturers, to name just one, wouldn't dream of demanding?

I was referring to the original win 7/8 and the fact that you could not continue to log on as the first user without accepting the terms and conditions , which contained the lines that you would accept updates etc

you should have declined their digital terms as used the machine as a foot warmer then,

don,t get me wrong , its annoying , however , in my case I am happy with win 10 (3 machines) , and have a spare motherboard that has been accepted by MS as win 10 , so this situation is not currently affecting me,

if you do not like it , you can unplug your router move to the woods , build a rudimentary toilet and become a off gridc spoon whittler , but remember to mark your diary to return home on the 30th july , when everything will be back to normal

    A predictably dull answer.
