Bought 2 wardrobes from Hammonds Furniture & wished I hadn’t big problems

  • 4 days ago I got Private message from Hammonds. Replied with my account number but have heard nothing since. Customer service at its best.
  • Throughout this process hammonds appeared not to have asked the designer or surveyor about my wardrobes. For if you had you would have found that I at all times stated that I did not want a separator and this was key to my order. This was also made clear to both of them.

Also you would have found out that the designer did not know how to use the computer plans well enough to remove it from his plan. He got in a muddle and promised the surveyor would correct this.

How did you not pick this up in your complaint procedure? Also the idea that it is imposable to remove it is just rubbish. The separator just makes it easier to construct and has no structural importance. Even I can see how you could easily do it.

Discounting the designers plan (its invalid) the surveyor plan you cannot see any separator. He also told me he had removed it so saying there was one in the technical stuff and therefore i agreed to it is unfair practice.

I would be happy to have the top of the wardrobes rebuilt without this separator. Before you go on and on about you cant just think "we can" and it wont be that hard.

Or you can take them away and refund my money.

    Neil

The OP has posted a picture of the design and survey plans, along with what has been built. The plans do NOT show the separator.

Quite rightfully the OP is not happy, and is quite entitled to insist on what they paid for, so I would suggest that Hammonds either rebuild the top section so that the divider cannot be seen, or remove the wardrobe and give a full refund.

There are clearly communication issues within the company that the OP, is bearing the brunt of...

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Oh dear,Hammonds are not exactly covering themselves in glory here.
If you search the forums there are a raft of similar complaints about this company that suggest op is not alone in his issues .

I suppose the next step is getting a quote from someone else to correct their work to what you wanted, then sending a letter before action giving them 28 days to either remove and refund, or alter the design to what you ordered.

Incidentally, the other companies that you got to quote who said they could not make the design without a divider, how much would they have charged? (E.g. If it is a lot less, it makes a good point in court that if you wanted THAT design, you would have paid a lot less).

  • Difficult to get a 3rd party to remove the separator as new side and top panel will need to be fitted. I am happy for Hammonds to correct the error or Give me a full refund.

Is the resolver service any good?

I can see that both designer and survey plans do show that a separator would be included in the top section of the robe, dividing the space into two. Our survey plans form the basis of the order and the contract we have made. Any queries should be raised before this document is signed as we will manufacture from this agreement.

Good news they have upped the reduction from £100 to £200.

The problem is that I cannot see the ugly separator in the survey plan. They also do not confirm that I verbally requested no separator to both the designer and surveyor as the basis of the design I thought I had ordered.
