Keep fighting it as their plans clearly do not show the separator. Time for court action?

(Perhaps you could get written confirmation from the companies you turned down that they could not do the work as they were unable to make it without a separator?)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Both the designer and surveyer both verbally assured me that they could produce a design with out the separator and I paid the money to produce this plan. Even the surveyer plan does not show the separator. This is my contract.

How can you go through four set of hammonds customer service and they still don't get it. They have shown no evidence that they have talked to them as they still talk of the designer plan as valid. What about the verbal agreement with the designer and surveyer to not include a separator. Don't they know the law?

Refund the money and you can take your poor robes back.

Just another opinion that what they have fitted is 1) apparently not what you asked for and 2) !!!!!!.

I wouldn't accept that at all, and would be at the LBA stage by now to get a refund. £3000 is a big deposit seeing as the balance is £1200 unless I misread - I skim read most of this thread.

But the plans clearly show two doors. So you have got what the plans showed.
I would be wary of going down the legal route on the say so of two or three people on a forum who have not seen the wardrobes nor the plans in the flesh. This may not end well. It might but it might not and if not you have paid legal fees on top of the cost of the wardrobes.
No, i dont work for hammonds, just counselling a bit of caution.
  • Before legal action I will go to the ombudsman, then there is of course trading standards. thanks to all for reading and replying.

Money saving expert has a the resolver service. Is it any good?

I don't think the OP was after 3m high doors. Just two doors with no separator between them.

  • The contact for Hammonds was through a Next Store in Norwich. Think I will drop Next Complaints team a line just to let them know.

But before that hammonds Technical team advise that the separator is needed. In the latest Final response letter they have changed their tune. Quote "The item you have was specially made following the design visit, to accommodate the height of your ceilings & make use of the space. Due to this, it was necessary for the separator to be present as this is standard for the item produced". It appears that is no longer vital for the structure and it therefore can be removed. It is now a matter removing will make the robes not fit. Sadly for Hammonds this is again rubbish. Removing the separate will drop the top cupboards by 20mm. All that is needed is to change the upper d!cor strip which is now 70mm to a 90mm one. This will match the bottom d!cor strip which is also 90mm. This should improve the look as both upper and lower will be the same. All the cupboard will be the same size and it will look nicer.

My new plan is at the weekend carefully remove the upper cupboards and remove the separator form one of my set of robes. I will take pictures and see just how justified Hammonds are to insist that it is imposable.

Thanks again for reading and Posting.

If you can do that yourself, and they then supply you with a 90mm strip, will this resolve the problem? It seems far simpler than the discussion to date.
  • Sadly removing the separator will also also require two new side d!cor panels as the new ones will have to be 20mm longer. I also do not have the specialist tools to neatly cut the items.

I have paid 80% of the wardrobe costs just for them to do the work. I don't want to give them any more money as they have been a nightmare.

I remember when looking for wardrobes getting a quote with Hammonds through next. Didn't go with them in the end as there was something odd with the Next/Hammond partnership. You didn't get the full range and Hammonds were doing their best to distance themselves from the deal.
