Of course if you have to pay 5p for bags you will buy the bag for lifes which works out cheaper. But who really wants to repeat that at every supermarket?

You really believe that you'd get chucked out of Tesco for using an Asda "bag for life". (That's what you're implying).

    The mind boggles!

I've come to the conclusion that the 5p bags were invented behind closed doors meetings of greedy supermarket bosses trying to find a way to prevent people from shopping around.

Back in the Dark Ages when it was "posh" to shop in Sainsburys, my mother, who couldn't afford to shop there, was given some Sainsburys shopping bags by an aunt (probably containing some cast-offs) and used them to do her shopping in the market/cheap shops. She thought it would impress the neighbours. Those bags were used until they wore so thin she couldn't use them amymore.

My Mum was the original Bag for Life shopper!

And lets not forget the added bonus of fun as you watch some tightwad who refuses to spend 5p on a bag and packs boxes of cereal, tins of food, carton of milk and a dozen eggs into both arms and struggles out the door and dropping the carton of eggs going down the road.........:rotfl:

I use the Hessian shopping bags which were designed for Tescos by Orla Kiely. They coordinate with many of my handbags so I always look stylish when purchasing spuds/bread/prosecco :D

If people want to do that at every supermarket then that's up to them.

I hate paying for a bag when I have some in the car but I would also kick myself if I drop and smash something when going to the car so I pay 5p for a bag.

    It's no scam at all.

    Why would you do that?

Yes technically you could use your bag for life in any supermarket but it's not going to go down very well when you're in Tesco and suddenly pull out a load of bright orange bags advertising Sainsburys is it!
