I need Octopus to get my gas smart meter to talk to them too. It shows usage on Bright and on my IHD but not costs and Octopus ask me to read it manually. Someone posted the best email address to get their attention but I can't find the post again, anyone know it?

I seem to remember Guy Lipman saying recently that (at least) hello@ and smart@ come through to the same team now, so either should be OK.

Tracker unit rates seem to be on the rise?
Judging from tomorrow's price at Nordpool, Electricity Tracker tomorrow will be a little above 30p/kWh. V1 will hit the cap, V2 and V3 won't.

@QrizB Looks like you might just have nailed this kWh prediction using the data available to you.  Would love to know how you are able to do this?!  Well done buddy.
  • I have started the switch to Octopus for Gas only from EDF today over the phone. She advised against taking a tracker and that the Flexible Octopus Variable was cheapest now.

I can't claim any special insight, it's pretty simple once you put the pieces of the jigsaw together.
    • Nordpool publish the day-ahead rate sometime during the day (I've never nailed exactly when, and it seems to move around).
    • Nordpool price in £ per MWh so you need to divide by 10 to give p per kWh (eg. if Nordpool say £123.45, the kWh price will be 12.345p)
    • I then look at when the wholesale price was a similar number in the right-hand column of Guy Lipman's table, and read back across to get the retail price.
I see Nordpool's price for tomorrow (Tuesday) is £172.18. That's 17.218p per kWh, similar to the 26th of March (17.128p on Guy Lipman's site) which means Tracker in my Region H will be around 29.1p/kWh.
If you'd rather do the maths, you can take the formula from Octopus's Tracker FAQ and work it out from first principles. Doing it that way for my region, I get 27.73p+VAT = 29.117p/kWh.
Sadly I haven't yet found a free source of day-ahead gas prices, so I casn't do this for gas :(

Tracker price today is 6.52pkw/h compared to Variable 7.28pkw/h in my region. I've been on Tracker since 14th April and only on 2days was the Tracker price more expensive than the Variable. That said Tracker is a gamble.
