Different topic: Anyone else experiencing uncharacteristically long billing delays just recently.? Mine normally come through online like clockwork.(for Go Faster though that should make no difference).Telegraph Sam

Actually it does make a difference, if you are on a tariff that uses the half hour data then any small gaps in the data will delay billing…Telegraph_Sam said:Different topic: Anyone else experiencing uncharacteristically long billing delays just recently.? I can't see any gaps in the csv raw data download. May be mine is an isolated incidence.Telegraph Sam

I find Guy Lipman's site useful for this. You can load your smart meter data and it will list any missing half-hour slots.Telegraph_Sam said:I can't see any gaps in the csv raw data download. May be mine is an isolated incidence.

There's probably more than one way to achieve the same objective. I've got into the way of processing the unintelligible "Explore your Energy Use" csv data into something readable, and using a little macro to split peak and off peak consumption. Perhaps Guy Lipman does the same?Telegraph Sam

Will be interesting to see what reply we get. If they don't raise the target, I will not participate. Having read their tips on saving gas I have been doing all this for years to keep costs down. I already wear multiple layers of clothing to keep warm Use heated throws to turn heating off. When I looked at average house usage in UK my own consumption was described as low. Much lower would harm my heatlth.njm123 said:
I've done the same and pointed out to them that their target would endanger my health. With a relatively mild winter I'd have to effectively switch the heating off for the equivalent of 2 weeks over their target period.littlemoney said:
The target I was given is way below last years usage. I keep a speadsheet of consumption so I can check. I have queried their estimate. If nothing changes I won't take part as to get usage to their figure I would probably have hyothermia. I already wear multiple layers to keep warm and my useage is below an average household.badger09 said:
Thanks for the links masonic. Must admit, I'm not really any wiser. I was trying to establish whether the 'historical data' would be based on the previous use in a specific property. If it is, then there's no chance of us reducing our usage below that 'historical data' since previous owners hardly ever had the CH heating on.masonic said:
As per the T&C (my emphasis): "Entrants will have a Personal Target calculated for them by Octopus Energy, based on their “annual quantity” (or AQ) of gas as outlined in Uniform Network Code H3.2.1 (the “Personal Target”). The AQ is calculated by Xoserve and will be based on historical data, recorded before the start of the qualifying period."badger09 said:
I'm curious. What 'historical data' will be used to calculate the 'annual quantity' on which the personal reduction target will be based?masonic said:This might be of interest to anyone using Octopus for gas:I don't know how many gas customers Octopus has, but presumably it is a small fraction of its total ~3m customers, many of whom won't sign up. So the odds of winning and share of the final pot everyone who hits their target gets might be worth the effort of signing up! Shame I don't have a gas supply.
You can find some information from Xoserve about how the AQ is calculated here and here.
It's obviously based on my last annual usage and the usage profile in their links, which doesn't really match mine which is higher use in Nov-March, with a bit in late October and the first half of April depending on the weather and very little in the rest of April to October.
Based on my records it's around 20% lower than what I used in the same period in 2019 and 30% lower than last year when we had some cold snaps. If they don't adjust to a sensible target I'll ignore as my heating is already at the level to keep me warm and manage the needs of the house in avoiding condensation problems.
Have you had a reply ???Email rolled in 18.05 today after twitter dialogueThanks for signing up to our Winter Workout. We've been working hard on your targets, and we're sorry it's taken a while to get back to you. Due to the nature of the estimates, we're not able to set an individual target for you, however we have increased your estimate by an additional 20%. If you still think your estimate is too low, we recommend setting the lowest target (5%) to compensate. If you've already set your goal higher, let us know here before midnight on Sunday and we can reset it to 5%.You're already in our weekly draws, just for signing up, and you can earn extra entries for every tip you complete. And remember, even if you don't hit your target over the 12 weeks, every unit less gas you use is saving you money on your bills and carbon emissions.Love & Power,

No hope for me then.I have been reading the gas saving tips and those that I can do I have been doing for years. The ones I can't would require thousands of pounds such as paying someone to increase loft insulation, new boiler etc.At the moment my heating is off and my warmest room is 16.4 degrees which I understand is unhealthy for me. I only heat one room of the house and during winter my bedroom has been down to 10 degrees. Gas is my only form of heating. The scheme is only good if you are using a lot of gas already not those who have already reduced consumption years ago to save money .I don't know what else I can cut out. I did once have an energy tarriff which was a low users one which was excellent but no one has anything like that these days.

Winter Workout competition - Greg Jackson said this today on twitter - "quarter of a million people taking part"

Presumably he means registered, not the number of people who have reduced gas consumption. I am trying to but probably won't meet the target as I already do many of their suggestions to keep my bills low.bristolleedsfan said:Winter Workout competition - Greg Jackson said this today on twitter - "quarter of a million people taking part"

You may need to look at your insulation and windows.
