EDF special tariff not for EDF customers?
Comments

I just spoke to EDF. They have said existing customers cannot apply. When prompted why we wasn't informed their excuse was that it contained exit fees. I stated that I would have liked the choice. Just looking at who else to move to. Anyone know what GB energy are like? as they come up about the same with no exit fees.0

I've been told that if I really wanted to "switch" then I should go and change my CEC's current provider to make this magical EDF tariff available to me and then just fill in the form...
If it won't be the case then, well, bye bye EDF0 -
I also spoke to EDF, UK customer services, rather than the readers-of-scripts. They said "legally" they cannot process switches from existing EDF customers. Presumably that's the contract they agreed with MSE.
I did bye bye EDF, hello Scottish Power.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
The problem with speaking to call centre staff is they never have all the answers and if put on the spot can come up with their own opinion rather than fact.
Same supplier to same supplier switches have always been rejected if the switch is instigated via a broker, this is because the supplier would have to pay the broker site commission to win their own customer. This isn’t something that’s specific to EDF.
What’s new in this EDF scenario is the only avenue to sign up to the tariff is via a broker.0 -
Same supplier to same supplier was also permitted for the two weeks that MSM had the offer, before MSE got their stupid hands on the deal.illegitimi non carborundum0

Hi all
Hopefully I can add some clarify to some of the earlier comments on this thread.
Unfortunately the EDF tariff which was mentioned in this and last week's email isn't available to existing EDF customers. I do understand that this is frustrating, but unfortunately this wasn't something which EDF would agree to - as much as we'd have liked to make it open to everyone.
So if as some of you mentioned, you did tweak your Energy Club account to say you're with someone else, I'm afraid the switch would be blocked once EDF review it.
Following some of the queries received last week, tweaks were made to this week's mention to try and make that point clearer. Hopefully it has done.
There has been quite a bit of change in the regulations around tariffs in recent months, but as it stands the position is as follows:
- Collective tariffs: these must be made available to existing customers, however if the tariff isn't to feature on bills (as is normally the request from suppliers), users must pre-register for the collective scheme. For more see the link below:
http://blog.moneysavingexpert.com/2016/01/19/why-you-now-need-to-join-to-get-a-super-cheap-mse-collective-energy-switch-deal/
- Exclusive tariffs: There is no requirement for a supplier to make these available to existing customers (although our preference would be that they're open to all). These tariffs were very uncommon until the recent CMA annoucements due to Ofgem regulations around the number of tariffs that a supplier could have available.

One of the requirements around a collective tariff is that if running a closed scheme, organisers are not allowed to share the tariff details ahead of it opening (as was the case with the MSE Big Switch Event 4). As such, we weren't able to tell our users to check the MoneySuperMarket's collective once the tariff became available - as due to the pre-registration rules, our users wouldn't have been able to get it (unless you'd already signed up to MSM in which case it'd have contacted your directly).
Clearly the difference between collective and exclusive tariffs is less than ideal and its something which MSE is challenging Ofgem on to try and get a better outcome for consumers.
PS. Just to add on a financial position, there is no benefit to MSE on whether a tariff change is made by a new to supplier customer, or by the supplier's existing customer.
I hope this explanation helps.0 -

Yes but only by the collective switch, for which you had to pre-register and go through a special link it wasn't available through a normal broker channel.0 -
My welcome to EDF energy, we are transferring your supply letter landed on the mat this morning.
I wonder how long it will take them to transfer from themselves0 -

I applied last Friday.
The letter I received yesterday was a generic 'Welcome to EDF, we are processing your switch and will be in touch shortly'. It also contained the details of the Simply Fixed tariff, t&c, etc.
So either its a standard letter that gets sent out before they do more thorough checks or they have checked and it doesnt matter that I am already with them.
I guess its now on hold until the 14 day cooling off period has passed anyway.0
